Craig's Twin Turbo buildup project, phase 1 - Help needed!

Hi guys!

I am sure by now most of you have heard about my twin turbo project. I wanted to keep it a secret mostly because I hate to talk about things that have a possibility of not happening - however it looks almost certain at this point .

Anyways, I will be receiving the motor hopefully this weekend, and I will need some help doing the swap at some future date. The following needs to be done:

1. Swap the new 383 in place of my current 350.
2. install a PA Racing K-member with the motor

What I would like to do is drop the motor out the bottom with the tranny attached, and slide it out on the k-member. Then install the new motor onto the new k-member, bolt on the tranny and headers, and then drop the car back over the motor.

Unfortunately I do not have the garage space to do this at my house so I am hoping that someone here has garage space for me to do this one weekend. I know this is asking alot however whoever hooks me up will be well rewarded (monetarily, alcoholically, or whatever floats your boat). I also need to borrow a cherry picker, some nice jackstands, and a decent set of tools/wrenches.

But most of all, I need helping hands. While this install shouldn't be as complicated as Shaun's (and we all learned alot from that one), I still need some of you generous souls to help out. I will make sure anyone who helps is fully nourished and sated .

So, please respond if:

A) You are able to provide garage space to do the install one weekend in the next month - PM me if want to work out a deal

B) You have tools that will be useful, i.e. a cherry picker

C) You would be willing to assist with the work

D) You would like to attend and provide verbal instructions/assistance, but not get your hands dirty.

Once I get some responses I will try to work out a date for this to happen. I am hoping this can be done in one day since I will have all the parts ready. I figure we can pull the stock motor in a couple of hours, get the new motor ready to install in a couple more hours, and have everything bolted back in by the end of the day.

As for the twin turbo part of the project, that will come later once the motor is installed and running properly.

Thanks guys!

You can use my Jack stands and I have a jack designed for SUV's (very high lift) that you could use too.

I know you didn't ask for this but if you ever need to have it towed, (Down to Steven's maybe) I have a friend who works for Payless and always wants to help out.

I'd love to help with anything that I'm capable of. I'm good a anything that doesn't require finesse... a pro bolt-breaker!

I'll give you a hand. Most of my good tools stay at work so all I have is cheap stuff at home. I can probably donate a pair of jackstands and a jack. I too plan on a motor swap some time in the future so this interests me alot.

A motor swap for you too eh??? Rest assured that I will lend a hand . Wouldn't it be great if we had a solid cadre of peeps with motor swap skills to share with those in need of help.

Other then a cherry picker and some nice stands I dont think we will need much in the way of fancy tools, altho air tools would be nice .

If my car is done and I'm able to move it out of my double garage..we can do it my place, but it has to be done in one weekend and no more than 5-6 guys there...it's in a townhome complex where everyone knows everyone business, we'll need to be as tame as possible...

I may have the thing for you. A friend of mine has his own backyard shop, with a hoist . I play hockey with him and I asked if he was willing to rent out the sapce / hoist for a day or two for a mod day. He has agreed !!! So if you want, Let me know a date and we can set it up. Also I would be more than willing to help. I've replaced my motor on my own last summer(wish I knew you guys then) , and I still remember how to do most of it. Let me know and PM me or call me @604-808-5327

Craig, I would like to help. Please let me know an exact date so I can plan around it. I would like to meet some of you guys too, like Mike, Sandeep and anybody else that I haven't met. Most of the LT1 guys know I have had my modded T/A for along time, so I know most of you guys.

I need to learn this in case my LT1 goes south in the T/A anyways.

I'll also need to snag all those parts off of you as well.

Well, let me check with the wife but I think I'd be able to host this event if you want.

Mike's cherry picker is here although I have to get it to Mike P's so he can do his K-member install but he is not far away. You have seen my facilities and in a crunch, if it takes more then 2 days, it can stay in my garage if needed.

That being said, I'm not sure HOW practical it would be to get it out the bottom but it could be done with jacks, bricks and wood.

I HOPE to have my car on wheels and moving in the next week or two. This Sat I hope to install the front end suspension and hopefully get it started. I'd be happy to help as well.

:-)

Wow great response guys . I really appreciate the offers.

Shaun, Mike, Sandeep, I am very grateful for your offers of garage space. Shaun, I take it you will be needing your garage for your car for the next couple of weeks?

As for taking the motor out from the bottom, read page 2 of the following thread so see how I would like to try it:

here is the procedure with pictures:

You can lift the body up and have the engine slide out the bottom fairly easily We will have enough guys to even lift that body once we got the K-member disconnected I have done it this way before on a different car

haha that sounds ghetto but I like it . Maybe someone can lend me their STB and we can lift from there using a hoist.
