Question 245/60/16 on Salad Shooters

I'm wondering if I can fit 245/60/16s on my salad shooter rims (16x8) and if they'll have no problems (rubbing, etc).

the other options are
235/60/16s.

Why are you going with a /60 series side wall?

Factory replacement sizes are:
245/50 16
225/60 16
235/55 16
255/50 16

60 series because...

i'm getting a 60 series sidewall for these reasons.

first off, I have some almost brand new tires in the front (215/60/16s) Bridgestone Potenza's. The car when I bought it came with this size tire, and the back ones were almost dead so I got 2 new rear tires as a christmas present (so the tire place put the ones from the front in the back (were almost brand new) and put the new ones in the front.

so right now I have 2 bald tires in the back and two brand new ones in the front (the back ones are beyond rotating them to the front)

so here is what I'm wanting to do. Since I want a wider tire (245 preferably) I have to stick with the 60 sidewall because of the front. I'm trying to leave the 215/60's in the front, and put (atleast 235,245s/60s) in the back making the car have wider tires in the back.

60 is a % not a size, a the size you have in the front will match heights with the sizes I listed.

235/55, 255/50 and 225/60 are all about the same height

215/60, 245/50 are the same height

Tire sizing. The width of the tire is measured in milimeters. But the sidewall is measured in its proportion to the width of the tire. So a 235/55 would be the same as a 245/50, since you increased width, in order to keep the same tire diameter you have to decrease your sidewall or aspect ratio.

See, if you change the overall tire diameter, it will throw off your speedometer (and odometer) Your speedometer is calibrated by two things 1)your gearing, and 2) your tire diameter. Since your gearing isn't changing, that is not affected, but you are changing your tire diameter and that will throw off the speedo.

You're current 215/60/16's have a Tire Diameter (TD) of 26.16 inches. That means if you drew a chalk line across the tire and then measured it by rolling the tire (chalk line touching the driveway) across the driveway until that line touched the driveway again it would be 26.16 inches away.

The factory TD is between
26.18" for 235/55/16's to
25.66" for 275/40/17's

You are right under the factory minimum 26.18 with your 26.16's. Now that won't make a real differance but you are running tires too small for your car!

Having said that, I can see what you are wanting to do run a 215 front / 245 rear setup. And that's fine! You'll be able to do that with the rims you have now with no rubbing. But all you want is wider rear tires. Not overall larger rear tires. Which is what will happen if you run a 245/60/16. That will give you a TD of 27.57 and throw you way off!
This is an exaggeration, but the way you are thinking now is going to give you a large slick in the rear, and skinnies up front. It won't look that drastic but you will be able to tell you have more sidewall in the back. And for our cars, for their handling, you really don't want big sidewalls. You want the smallest you can get.

So, 245/50/16's for the rear. They will be wider, they won't rub, and they won't mess up your speedometer. If you want to, later on, you can also run 245's up front, so that you can rotate your tires all the way around. And increase life.

You can go all the way to 255 on the 16's. Or if you upgrade you can go up to 275's front and rear with the SS wheels - no rubbing.
will need minor massaging of fender lip but if you buy custom rims, you can run 295 front/315 rear.

1 more Question

thanks guys, this really cleared everything up.

i just have 1 more question. I looked up the overall tire diameter on tire rack foro the 215/60/16 that I will be having in the front and then the overall tire diameter for the 245/50/16s that will be in the front.

the difference was half an inch.

will this affect anything negatively?
