Framed Doors and T-tops?

The industry trend is to move towards doors with full frames..unlike the Camaro. That being cause it makes a stronger car with less leaks/wind noise. Say they were gonna make a 5th Gen with T-tops...this makes framed T-tops a possibility...like the 300ZX. I personally don't like the idea but i don't know if it could see reality also. I mean I know GM got an assload of complaints over the years for wind noise, leaks, and chassis rigidity..

So what do you guys think..

Framed T-tops to get rid of leaks and wind noise but sacrifice some of the coolness?...

or

Traditional t-tops with traditional issues.

I dont think traditional t tops would be a problem if the build quality and fit and finish are top notch.

Or they could go the route Ford went with the Fox Mustang for most of the 80s.

T-tops were available on every Mustang (though most all were on early Mustang hatchbacks). Non T-tops had the fully framed doors, while T-top versions had the frameless door glass of the convertibles.

(I see you have another poll that is asked in a way designed to skew the results. )

Yes, once again we are presented with a classic formula79 poll

I agree with guionM about the design. T-tops shouldn't have full framed doors, but the coups could.

I think we have a solution right there, copy the mustang.

My 94 Z28 never leaked

Does anyone think the new Mustang will get T-tops? or moonroof?

Ok I'm dumb. I had no clue there where different kinds of t-tops. Traditional vs. Framed? Could someone explain the differences and show me some pics or something? What are the details of a framed t-top? What cars in the past have had what kind of t-tops? What are the pros and cons of each?

Stars, it's not the t-tops that would be framed, it would be the doors. An unframed door doesn't have any framework above the window, so when you open the door there's just the glass window up top.

That probably doesn't make much sense, but I don't have any pics right now to show ya, sorry

How about if they just built it right?

My Mustang doesn't have framed doors and it does not leak. I haven't heard of C5's leaking. Many other cars have frameless windows and don't leak.

Besides, sports cars don't have framed doors.

Not only should the side glass be frameless, but the next cars should have rear quarter windows that roll down with no B-pillar. Ya know, a true 2 door hardtop.
And of course T-tops should be available.

Option 3...

Properly built traditional T-tops do not have to sacrifice ridgidity, leaks, or wind noise.

The only leaks my 98 ever had were when going through the car wash. The only wind noise increase was with them off. Ridgidity? On the 4th gens the hard top did not significantly increase that.

Whats left? Weight. Well...what can I say? Live with those few extra lbs....just like you'd do with any other option.

The industry is moving away from non framed windows..they cause wind noise and other issues...

If Dodge deemed non framed windows sacrificed quality and interior noise enough to put frames on the Neon...how do you think Chevy veiws the Camaro...

for the record I want traditional.

I could care less about where the industry is supposedly going. This is the Camaro we're talking about, no frames.

The Neon is a 4-door . It is not noted for low wind noise or a quiet interior.

BMW uses Framless side glass on its coupes, as do many other luxury and non luxury makes.

Really... I mean, if you want an honest result, why try to infuence the choices? But it seems to have backfired anyway...

Anyway.........

Having a framed door window with T-Tops would look horrible when the tops are off.
