Question 1.6 pro-mags and stock valve covers? what do i have to do?

i am putting my motor back togeather and was trying to get my valve covers on. the box inside the passenger valve cover is preventing me from getting them on. it is hitting my 1.6 pro mags and i am not sure what to do? should i cut that box out or what? anyone else have this problem?

thanks

thomas

You have to cut the supports inside the valve cover.

I dont know any way of retaining that with wide bodied rockers. An oil seperator http://collop.cz28.com/custom2.html is probably going to be your solution.

a friend and i just cut the one horizontal support that interfered with the roller rocker fulcrum and left the rest. i think it is the longer of the 2 supports.

DO NOT cut the supports. all you need to do is straighten them out where they curl up at the bottom.

rumair,

i understand and have seen your previous posts and will not cut the supports. the problem is with the little black box on the inside of the valve cover? i am not sure what to do with this box, can i remove it or replace it with something else?

Be sure, Whatever you do....don't cut out the baffle, or you'll be in BIG trouble. (In case you didn't know)

When I put in my Pro-Mags....I cut out the supports, welded in some standoffs, and got a thicker, circle-track style gasket for the valve covers...I've never had any leaks. If you're gonna bend the supports, or cut them out, or whatever, make sure you have clearance for the poly-locks. I ran into a problem where they were rubbing on my valve covers, and there was all kinds of metal in my oil from the top to the bottom. Cleaning all of it up got pretty expensive. Good luck!

that makes absolutely no sense at all. im wondering if they changed the design b/c there was no support that you could bend in my valve covers.

Thomas, I am pretty sure Hoostie and Bridges, both cut theirs. I only see benefit to cutting that piece, because it allows more oil to move around the top of the motor.

i assume the little black box you're referring to is the baffle; if it is, don't cut that either. i apologize if i had an easier time with the stock valve covers/gaskets and comp rockers than most people, but my valve covers fit fine just straightening the bottom of the supports. i know several other people in my area who have done the same thing without incident.

is there any difference between 97 LT1 valve covers and 93-96 valve covers? i really wish i could be of more help, but i can only tell you what's worked for me.
