Camaro ChriSS 02-16-2003, 02:31 PM This is just a minor venting thread about f-body insurance. I haven't been quoted yet for this year, but I can guess the amount a 1-year policy will cost. Here's a comparison. Keep in mind I'm a roadstar gold (15+) and have all the security discounts.
Insurance Price for 1 year:
2000 - $1437.00
2001 - $2030.00
2002 - $2600.00 (expected)
Does this remind anyone of the early 70's? What a joke. Nearly 100% increase in 2 years.
sleeperZragtop 02-16-2003, 02:39 PM ...that's it...me, 3200.00 per year...600.00 increase for just being a vert...I hate ICBC:mad:
ollie-99 02-16-2003, 02:46 PM  OMG!!!

Tw!tchb!tch 02-16-2003, 03:01 PM Hah , thats what Im talkin bout :D
Pandamonkey 02-16-2003, 03:21 PM Rising insurance costs are part of the reason I only insure my ride for 5 months of the year.........I would love to insure it all year round what with the great weather we've seen of late, but I have 2 other vehicles which require all year round insurance.
The money's just not there.............:(
Camaro ChriSS 02-16-2003, 06:10 PM Yeah, I only insure for 6 or 7 months with the occassional TOP.
But it's terrible. You notice in the other thread that I think Ollie started how few kms most of us really drive. They really need an insurance plan that takes into account low mileage vehicles, rather than charging everyone full goose. In addition to one that truly reflects the individual's driving behaviour and not based on the theoretical 'dangerous' nature of our vehicles. It would be more fair to us, though I could see that ICBC would earn a lot less revenue as a result.
Seriously, 2 years ago I used to laugh when people said that insurance rates were too high on our cars. And if you look at what I paid 2 years ago, the rates weren't that bad. Only a little more than your typical minivan. But this year, now we have something to be mad about.
Feel sorry for the young guys with little discount.
ollie-99 02-16-2003, 06:15 PM ya i totally agree with you..

bunker 02-16-2003, 06:21 PM I only insure it for 1 day permit, seems that it works out cheaper, I only have time to drive her durring the weekend.
Jason Dove 02-16-2003, 06:26 PM If you're the only driver of the vehicle and you have 10 years experience, you'll get another discount... I think I got 200-300 off because of that.
That discount is on top of the roadstar discount...

That's not a bad idea! I only drove my car for 2017Km this last summer.........not sure how many days it took to do that but I'll have to sit down and figure out if it'll be cheaper to insure by the day............thanx! :)
bunker 02-16-2003, 07:13 PM No probs, it sure works out cheaper for me, infact some weekends it rains & I don't want to drive the car anyways so I save that way too :) plus the rates never go up on a 1 day permit, its always 25$ for 1 day & $37 for 2 days :) & you can hide the permit papers, not put one on the front & hide the back on so its kinda showing & behind the tint, & if you accidently go through a yellow & it turns red & the damb camera takes a snap shot of your car, there will be no plates :) or anything to really look at.
ollie-99 02-16-2003, 07:16 PM Are you sayin...
all of us at the meet w/ day permits can run red -light camera's for fun!
:D :D

I'm considering this too this year.
Pandamonkey 02-17-2003, 12:12 AM I wonder how many people it would take, doing the day permits on their summer cars, for Icky Bicky to start losing money..........
If everyone only insured there cars/trucks on the days that you needed them ICBC may be forced to lower their rates...........it would take a hell of a lot of voices though.
I have 2 other cars, both of which I need to have insured everyday.
It sure would be nice if a person could do the day permits over the Net and print out the paper to stick on the cars..........mabye in the future..........
JeffK95Z 02-17-2003, 11:59 AM I still have my Alberta drivers license, after being here for 2 years and having insurance for all but a few months of that...
Finally someone told me that I could get in trouble for not switching, supposedly you only get 3 months to switch...
I stopped into a ICBC place to get it switched, but it was the wrong place, but I inquired about my insurance anyways, as I knew it was going to go up ALOT based on the news, etc...
I normally pay 102 a month for pleasure use (35% discount) with normal coverage (except my car isn't covered if I cause the accident, cna't remember what thats called) and now, its going to go up around 50-60 bucks a month!
So i'm looking at a 600 dollar increase!! Just because they want to do it... Its outrageous!!
I thought about the day permit for all the time, but its not worth it for me... I to only drive on the weekends for the most part, but even driving once a day on the weekends = 100 bucks a month (and actually, the dude at the ICBC place, said that the day permits WERE going up, he said they were 32 bucks for a single day or something) so say 100-120 a month, for the sake of an extra 20 bucks, I'd much perfer to be able to drive the car any time, just so long as it isn't to work.
Either way, huge insurance increases and gas prices going through the roof, really makes it hard on us... Bastards!!!
We outta protest!
Jeff
BennyBoy 02-17-2003, 02:06 PM 2100/year.
Way too much money as far as I am concerned.
JD30thZ28 02-17-2003, 04:03 PM Mine was $1600 last year, it is $1900 this year :(
Is there anyway to have insurance that can be used on two cars? I would love to have 1 plate that I can swap between the Camaro and Neon as needed :D

Houman tried that (not the plate switching, but using his insurance on the camaro for his beater) and it netted him a 3 month suspension

Wow. Thats quite a bit cheaper than me (by $500 or so) and I have every discount possible. Is that for a full year, or part year JD?
You know what ICBC should really have in this day and age is a system where you buy yearly storage insurance, and you ONLY pay road insurance (that is, Collision... which is the killer) when you are driving (based on an hourly rate) - and you do this by buying it online. I.e. if your car is sitting in your garage all week, then you need to go out for 6 hours, so you insure your car for 6 hours or so only and print out the TOP on you computer. Then park it again.
Most of the fee that you pay for a TOP goes into the "processing costs" - IOWs. labour for number punching. Probably $3 is insurance, and $29 is labour. With computers and online transactions, labour should be out the door. It seems to me they could easily streamline things.
However, in the end, they still need to make enough money to pay for all the claims caused by the poor drivers in our society. So, even if they did what I proposed, they would just end up jacking up the price so that effectively we are still paying the same annual amount to them (ie. storage costs would jump from $400 annually to $1600 annually, and TOPs would be $60 per day). Either way, they'll eventually get it out of us because we have no choice.
They got us bent over a fence post...

Yeah , I was bitching at the insurance chick over this very subject . I think you should be able to pay for insurance and storage on the more expencive vehicle and be able to swap to the lesser vehicle whenever you wish . This would alow both vehicles to be covered at all times for one price . You can only drive one vehicle at a time anyways eh . There a bunch of ****ing losers .
sleepybu 02-18-2003, 03:39 AM you can have flete plate in some caces's...we have flete plates on are farm trucks:p

$1678 Last Year
$1993 This Year
Muskys SS 02-18-2003, 09:39 PM Just checked out mine, $2148/year
Jason Dove 02-19-2003, 12:57 AM I just paid something like 1645 with the new rates after telling them I was the only driver and have 10+ years...
That's $500 collision, the best comprehensive (what is it, 400 now?) and an extra million of liability...
Maybe it's because of the < 15km to work thing?
mr_muff 02-19-2003, 01:37 AM mine is damn near 3000 and it is with like the litlest coverage i could get away with, and i have 15%. That was last april too, I can't wait till this april....
