ws-6 hood mods??????

i was wondering what kinda hood mods i can do to my ws-6 because i know those nostriols have to be able to pack alot of flow but i looked at the back and its all blocked off. just wondering if i can make the ram actually function like the old ram airs did (cold air into the airfilter).

BG Ram Air system at ls1speed.com.

It seals the Ram Air, but also has you cut out the baffles. So you cant drive it in the rain at all. But it is good if you dont have to.

I believe there's a rain blocker addition to that system.

Your hood is blocked off? Really? Then it's not an OEM WS6 hood. The OEM hood has a rectangular opening that lines up in front of the airbox opening. Although, there's still a 1 1/2 inch gap between them so it's worthless. :confused:


I saw a guy last night that had an aftermarket hood that looked almost exactly like the WS6 hood. But when I looked at the back of the hood, the cowl was flush rather than set in a little like the OEM hood. Also, his hood didn't have the opening to line up with the factory intake. He will have to do a square panel filter and mod the hood to function like the '97 WS6 hood.


You sure there's no opening in your hood? If so, you got ripped.

lol.. my hood is no longer functional either.. my air box is sealed at the hood and i get all of my air from below..

the only thing my hood does now is let "some" outside air into the engine compartment

its the original hood from the factory, it just kinda looks blocked off. wuts the top part of the hood for? there is no way to get rid of the air once it goes inthere so its kinda stuck

idk, just lookin for some free mods to get some real power :D

Behind the nostrils, you should have this opening (minus the BG Ram Air gasket/spacer)

mine has like urs but there is something inbetween (a metal sheet) so its not getting direct flow. can i get rid of that and then when it rains, have some lil rubber pieces to fill the ram air up (since i wouldn't be driving hard in the rain)

OK .. Now I see what you're saying.

You are looking at the plastic "rain deflectors" behind the nostrils.

Look around the opening and you will see several plastic rivet heads painted the same color as your hood. Take a small drill bit and carefully drill in the center of the heads. The rivet heads will snap right off.

Now you can push the deflector up and into the cavity and then turn it to remove it through the rear hole. It takes about 30 seconds to snap the rivet heads, but about 10 minutes to get the stupid thing turned the right way to slide out the hole.

There's a second deflector in front of that. You'll see another set of rivet heads. Do the same thing to remove that baffle. But this one is glued to the hood, so you'll have to use some force to break it loose.

so how do i keep the rain out the couple times i hafta drive in te rain a year or is there a way?

I've driven in the rain with both baffles removed and never had a problem.

First, there are drain holes in the hood opening. Even if you plug those, you still have openings around the hood latch and release lever. Water will drain out.


Second, the hole in the back is not at the bottom of the hood. It's about 1/2 inch from the bottom. Most rain water that didn't drain will collect there rather than going through the opening.

If you're driving through enough water that it can't drain out and it's not getting collected at the back, have no fear, there's still another place for the water to drain out. Our hoods do not seal to the airbox. There's a 1.5 inch gap between the hood opening and the air intake. Water that goes through the hood opening will not make it across the gap and into the air box.

However, should water still make it this far (are you driving through a swimming pool?) You still have an air filter, right? That should soak up any drop or two that made it all the way. And if you've got an oil impregnated filter (K&N, Holley, Green, etc) then oil and water don't mix, right? Water should be repelled from the filter.

I've never had a problem driving with all baffles removed.

well hell, those things are gonna be out tonight then :)!!!!! will it void warrenty? i don't think it will soi guess i'll do it lol.

You'll need some touch-up paint to cover up where the rivet heads were.

Everything is put together before it's painted.

does it show from the outside without the paint on it????????!!!!??????

Only when you open the hood. With the hood open, you'll see the white fiberglass where the rivet heads were. With the hood down, you can't tell.

If I weren't such a selfish, lazy, fat bastard, I'd go out to the garage and take a picture for you. But .... I don't feel like doing all that tonight.

well i did it bu i can't feel much difference. o well, i can't shift very fast with that big semi shifter lol. once i get the ripper soon!!!

well, you didn't actually expect to feel a difference did you? :D Besides, the air box is not sealed to the lid, so you're not really ramming that air into the airbox.
