TBI switch
I have a 91 TBI and have been considering switcghing to naturally asperated for a few reasons.
1) I haven't found a higher performance upgrade from Holley, Eldelbrock or Demon for my stock Throttle bottle.
2) I live in an Apartment complex and can't do my own car upgrades and all the american muscle car mechanics I have found don't know jack about throttle bodies/ECM controlled cars.
3) Import guys know about TBI but can't find part for american muscle cars, so it would seem.
4) Aftermarket Air cleaners from all major brands bolt right up to a naturally asperated Carb, but not to an offset stud configuration of my Throttle body, I can't even get the top of the Air Cleaner to fit on even close.
I have recently added a Cowl Induction hood from Goodmark and just wanted to add an after market Air Cleaner to take advantage of the cowl induction but aftermarket air cleaners dont have a place for the Intake Air Temperature sensor so I left it uplugged and now My Check Engine light comes on after driving the car for about 5 mins.
ECM/TBI work together to controll ide spee, idle air mixture, fuel flow, choke and maybe more I dont know about so switching wouldn't be just a simple matter of bolting on a 650 Holley street avenger and reconnecting the fuel line and throttle linkage, and I don't want to rip out all the factory sensors and stuff since it all works perfectly
I appreciate any advice.

I switched from EFI to a carb, and heres what i had to do....
1) you need a new/used intake and carburetor...
2) youll need a non computer controlled distributor
3) youll need a fuel pump.. (you can get a mechanical one and just pump through the in tank one, thats what i did)
4) you wont need your computer anymore, so the only sensors you really will need (although you can just leave the others) are the oil pressure sending unit and the water temp sending unit (if you want your gauges to work...) everything else goes to the computer, which no longer does anything...
you can just unhook the plugs to the other sensors and use a plastic strap or something to secure it out of the way and leave the other sensors...
youll want to remove your check engine light bulb, as it will stay on forever...
if you have a car with an electric fan... (i didnt luckily) youll have to rig up a switch to turn it on, or just wire it on all the time...
thats about it really... heres a link to an article to help, although i didnt have to do EVERYTHING there...

first thing you need to do is go to www.thirdgen.org and look at teh tech articles abotu ultimate tbi, diy afpr, and aldl convertor lock up swtich if you have an auto.
sorry to break this to you, but that jet chip was a waste of cash. you will get more out fo the free mods i mentioned above than that chip coudl hope to give you.
if you are interested in quick mods that can be done on jackstands in a few hours you are pretty limited. exhaust work is an option, and an intake swap would take a few hours with a helper.
edelbrock and holley both make intakes or you can use a carb intake wiht an adaptor plate. holley makes replacement throttle bodies, but unless you can find the time/space to do a cam swap or soem other major air flow improvement there is no need for that.
for the air cleaner all you need to do is stop at lowe's on your way home from work and pick up a piece of all thread. jsut bend a pair of 90's in it with pliers and use it as a stud.
tbi si nto supported as much by teh aftermarket as tpi and carb, so you have to be willing to do a few extra minutes worth of work to get soem things done. it will eb worth it if yo9u are willing to try.
