What Kind of Brake Fluid Do YOU Use?

What kinds of brake fluid do you recommend?

I have heard the Ford HD stuff is good for street use.

Is there anything that is better that you don't have to change all the time?

You dont have to change anything "all the time", unless you get that 800º stuff or something. I use Wilwood, no special reason, its not the best, it was readily available to me and it was decent and I needed it short notice.

Most people are going to change thier fluid around once a year, thats just how it is.

I use any brand-name DOT4. I autocross and track my car. Should I ever have a problem, I will go to DOT 5.1 or Motul.

I use Motul 5.1. It has yet to fail me. The current batch has been in there for four months, and has three days on the track plus some autox and several thousand street miles. Even though the pedal feels good, I will run a bottle through it before the next track event.

Has anyone tried the GS610 from Pro-speed?

I use the ford DOT3 for w2w with great results. Its easy to find and inexpensive.

Castrol SRF ...

Sounds outrageous, but I saw it used w/o issue, w/o bleeding, w/o replenishing for over a year in a street car that saw some serious track duty.

I was also having some brake issues and HAD to rule out fluid as an issue ...

Motul 600- most racers in the Camaro-Mustang Challenge use this. Reasonably priced and well proven.

ATE Super Blue. Good dry and wet boiling points for the price which is ~9.95 a liter. If I wanted better I'd probably skip Motul and go straight to SRF. SRF is worth the $70 IMO b/c it can go a lot longer than any other fluid out there. Castrol advertises it as being able to go one year under race conditions-imagine how long it could go in a daily driver.

Without a doubt, Castrol SRF is the best brake fluid-period. I was walking through the pits at the Rolex 24 at Daytona a couple of weeks ago and that is all I saw in the garages.
If you only track a few times a year, then ATE, Ford HD, Motul, Wilwood-they are all good choices. One is not going to greatly outlast the other in terms of durability on the track. Where you run into problems is if you don't change the fluid frequently. It picks up moisture over time and the boiling point drops with it. That is when you will start to boil it. Keep the stuff fresh(say every 2-3 track events or every 6 months) and you will be in good shape.

I use the Ford HD and I think it works great for street & track use.

I use Valvoline Synthetic with no issues.

I went to Ford to pick up some brake fluid and they told me that they stopped selling Ford HD fluid in a blue metal can about a year ago. They now offer Ford "High Performance" DOT 3 fluid in a White plastic bottle.

they put in some good greenish blue racing fluid in mine.
the can had German writing on it.
i think it was for or made by BMW.

Sounds like ATE from what I've been told they make that fluid for BMW.

That is correct. As I understand it... it is the same fluid just not in the metal cans. I have been using the white bottle Ford HD for over a year and about 8 different 2day track events without any problems.

Of course, I do change it before each event.

95 Z28 LT, I went with valvoline synthetic,when I upgrade the calipers(new) I'll use the Motul.

I went to the Porsche/BMW/Mercedes dealer yesterday looking to see what they had. All of it is DOT 4. All those brands and even Volkswagon brand is DOT 4.

I priced out the Porsche brand... they wanted $50 for a litre!:eek:

I also found Wilwood in a speed shop, it was $7 a bottle.
