4th gen wheels on 3rd gen

well, after all the people told me that 4th gen fronts will fit 3rd gen, they must have pixie dust on their wheels!! i tried to put some salad shooters on last night and they hit the steering knuckle. so much for that theory!

Buy a set of adapters similar to these:

Get some 2" spacers like Rob pointed you towards...and they'll fit just fine.

I run 4th Gen wheels...front and rear.

3RD Gen cars without expensive spacers. And Salad Shooter at that, you must be hard up for new wheels.

I don't have an issue with the $ amount on the adapters. It's the cautions of the lugs coming off that adapter to the brake disc that have me ponder the most! What horse power can these support and has anyone noticed handling improvements?

You bolt the spacers onto the stock wheel studs, and then the spacers have their own set of studs that you bolt the wheel to.

There's really no concern to them breaking or coming off. Why would they come off? Why worry about them, any differently than your standard wheel studs breaking off. It's not like there's slack in the set up, so when force is applied the studs experience a shock...cause they don't.

There's nothing to worry about...and I doubt many have horsepower enough to where it MAY even be a problem.

If running bolted-on spacers is unsafe, then so is bolting a wheel onto your car.:rolleyes:

There are conflicting theories on this because there are 2 different kinds of product that do the job. One kind bolts to the hub, and has it's own wheel studs that the wheel bolts to. These are perfectly safe because the there is no twisting load on the studs, it's all shear load. The other product is just a spacer that requires you to bolt your wheels over them onto the original studs. These are NOT safe at more than about 1/2", because the space between the wheel and the hub flange gets large enough that the studs can bend over and eventually break or pull the lugnuts through the wheels.

If you get the ones with their own studs you'll be fine.

I've been running spacers on my 91 Z with mods in the sig for a while now with no problems at all!!! I dont see how the bolt on spacers would be unsafe!

And as far as the adapter-to-hub lugnuts are concerned...put a little locktite on them and torque them good and they'll never come loose.

do i have to run 2" spacers all the way around??

are skulte 2" spacers good??

I have skulte adaptors for the last year with no problems, just email him with what car you have and what wheels you want and he will get you the exact size adaptors. Or do what I did and swap in a rear end from a 4th gen, I got rear disc brakes, posi traction, and 3.23 gears (all upgrades from previous rear). Then you only needs adaptors for the front.

Also if everybody understand the differance between spacers and adaptors, that would solve alot of confusion.

My point exactly.

Chalk up another one for the running adapters and not having any problems with them. These adapters are absolutely no different than running a wheel with less offset than the 4th gen wheels..... Unless you fancy leaving the lugs loose :think:

the larger the rim the easier they will fit, the 4thgen wheel has a different offset then the 0 offset on our thirdgens so that's why the stock 16" "salad shooter" wheel won't fit.

once you find out the offset and backspacing you just have an adapter made and you'll be fine.

as far as breaking them.....i'm sure anything's possible if you set your mind to it. however, i do feel that you will break other parts of your driveline before you ever break an adapter. at least the skulte ones....don't know about others.
