Where can I buy virgin Xylene or Toulene?

Unleaded race gas is simply unavailable in my area. I bought a can of Xylene at Sherwin Williams and my car did not run well at all with it. Turns out it had a 10% solution of Benzene in it .....whatever that is, I guess that's what the problem was. Who has the good stuff and how do I know it's the good stuff when looking at the container? I would find Toulene just as acceptable as Xylene if I could just find it somewhere and knew what to look for. Anyone have an exact brand name or part number of sorts?

I just tried 3 gal of the Xylene from Home Depot. Car ran awsome.

I am also told you need to add Marvel Mystery Oil.

Have you tried contacting Sunoco? They have distributors in a lot of areas... http://www.racegas.com

Yes, I have tried the Sunoco links (ALL of them). What I need is Xylene or Toulene because race gas is simply unavailable here. The only way I can get it is by the drum and I would never need that much or be able to keep that much fresh. Plus I don't want the drum in my garage.

Can someone please tell me where I can buy virgin Xylene or Toulene?

Try a store that sells paint supplies.

By the time you buy enough Xylene or Toulene to increase the octane up enough to equal race gas, it would be cheaper to just buy race gas.

If you don't have a local distributor of Xylene or Toulene then it will probably cost even more than race gas. Buy the barrel. As long as it's kept sealed it will stay fresh.

Actually, it's cheaper to use the Xylene mix since it's 116 octane (doesn't take much). I've tried Sherwin Williams and a couple other places but they act like they don't know what I'm talking about. All they have is the crap with Benzene mixed into it. When I say "virgin" or "pure" they give me a puzzled look and tell me they don't know.

I really don't want a freaking barrel of race gas in my garage and don't want to buy the barrel and pay shipping on it. Anyone have another suggestion?

Get rid of the blower and run pump gas :)

Or convert over to Methanol

They sell 110 leaded turbo blue gas at some pumps here, and I mix that with 93 octane unleaded. The high octane unleaded stuff is only available by the 55 gallon drum here. Lots of fuel injected guys mix both together. Try calling a local roundy round race track, they might have some 104 unleaded.

Get a drum of race gas. It is available in containers as small as 5 gallons.

Try an automotive paint store. The place I used to work for sold it by the gallon.

i ran toluene in my 95 ta once and it ran fine. im not sure what your talkin about benzene is one of the main ingredients in toluene. go to siperstiens, as you said sherwin williams, maybe a hardware store, ALL toluene is a paint remover, additive.

read all of this web site, all the way thro, it is alittle long but it should help

I bought Xylene from a Builders Supply place. They said they use it msot for removing thick glue from stuff not paint or anything like that. $9.30/gal
1 gallon xylene to every 3 gallons of gas is what i do.

Thanks mehoff, yeah..I've read that a bunch of times. The problem is with finding the virgin stuff. (perhaps I had the virgin stuff before via the Xylene I bought from Sherwin Williams and it was just a bad batch? "pure" but 10% benzene? ...or maybe it was just that my knock sensor was bad at the time...it was diagnosed as a problem back in July when it was dyno tuned). When I added the Xylene that had 10% benzene from Sherwin Williams I saw more KR than ever before and suddenly lean O2 readings (around 830 mv's) ......coincidence maybe?

Well, I guess I just have to shop around even more. "1993lt1" let me know what you've got and when you'll be around....thanks.

You can get at some paint stores... What i would do is go to one of the older paint stores in your area or older hardware stores and make sure you got 100% Think last time i did the math its a 1-3 mix to get you 100 octane or so... I just don't know the stores in your area so can't tell ya who is gonna have and who isn't as most are putting in mixxes now from what i have seen.

The fuel companies do sell the fuel in 5, 15, 25 gallon tanks here but when i have tried to contact fuel companies via email i have not gotten a reply.

How much difference does this stuff actually make in performance?

av gas has serious lead in it so be warned in case you guys didn't know. The low lead stuff is still insane high with lead.

Matt
The octane can make you alot more power reasoning is you can run more cyl pressure without detonation. So meaning you can run more timing or more boost or whatever.
