camaro 22 02-07-2003, 02:58 AM The other night, I got stuck in a snow/ice storm on my way home from work. I got stuck half way up a hill, wheels spinning, so I made a u-turn to go back down. Well, I was sliding down a little now, and felt my brakes pulsating from the abs. When I got to the bottom, I noticed my abs inop light was on. I was slipping and sliding all the way home. When I got home, I turned the car off, let it sit for a few mins, turned it back on, and it's still on. Yesterday, I took both abs fuses I seen under the hood out for over a day, but it's still on. Tonight, I disconnected the pos side of the battery for over 2hrs, and it's still on. Would the neg side make a difference? Also, I haven't moved the car since I came home that night after all that slipping and sliding. Do you think If I drove it under normal conditions, it may go away? Anyone know what's wrong, or how to fix it? It's not my 3rd brake light out either. I happened when I was sliding down the hill. Also, I know my pads are pretty low, and need changed soon. Could that have anything to do with it? I hope someone can help. Thank you.
kahouna23 02-07-2003, 10:16 AM I've heard a few problems like this and since you're in the right conditions...(snow/ice)...sometimes snow and ice can get on the brakes and cause improper application between the pads and rotors. Depending on the temperature in your area, maybe check to make sure there's no buildup. This is probably a long shot, but maybe something simple worth checking. Other than that, have you checked the fluid level in the master cylinder? That could be another posiblity. Hope I'm a little helpful.
BradC 02-07-2003, 11:15 AM Make sure your 3rd brake lights work.
V6Power 02-07-2003, 11:36 AM Did you try autotapping?
camaros_4_lfe 02-07-2003, 11:44 AM go through a car wash and let dry happens to me all the time with salt on the road and that nasty sh!t gets in there
DRATER 02-07-2003, 06:36 PM your ABS light will come on when 1 of your 4 sensors are out, or you have a short (thats what happend to me), or when you need new brakes.
prolly woln't help, but check to make sure that the wiring from the sensors at the front wheels are not routed too close to spark plug wires (i guess it causes it to short out or something). that happened to me in my 94, but went away after i tied if back with a zip tie. i guess being too close to the spark plug can your ABS light to come on.
atl2001 02-07-2003, 06:45 PM THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON WHEN THE 3RD BRAKE LIGHT IS OUT??? holy sheeet , i need to check that , ive been driving around with the durn thing flashing at me for the past 3 months. it comes on when i turn on the car , and then it starts flashing when i press the brake pedal
camaros_4_lfe 02-07-2003, 07:13 PM im really telling you to try washing it still and letting it dry if it works then theres salt in it somewhere if it keeps happing u have an exposed wire or connector
also just turn the car off then on no need to unhook power
camaro 22 02-08-2003, 01:08 AM I appriciate your help guys. I just spent the last 2hrs trying to get into my car, because my locks were frozen, deicer wasn't even helping, and i disconnected my battery this morning to maybe reset it. I finally got in, hooked my battery back up, and it's still there. The fluid is good. As stated before, it's not my brake light. I know my pads are due, could that really be it? I can't really hose it off yet because of how cold it is here still. This is really frustrating. As said before, It came on when I slid down the hill with the brakes pulsating. I'm hoping it's just my low pads that caused it. Or when i can start driving it again on normal dry roads, that it might go away on it's own. Again, anymore info or beliefs would be great. Thanks again.
camaros_4_lfe 02-08-2003, 09:58 AM well go to a spray n wash if u can its very cold here too and i do it as a mtter of fact i had to do it again yesterday
camaro 22 02-08-2003, 04:54 PM Well, I tried the car wash camaros 4 life. It's still on. I did check my brake fluid again, and it did seem a little low, so i topped it off. My breaks still feel a little spongy to me though. Should i try resetting anything now after I topped off the master cylinder? This sucks really bad. What should I do?
