Problems with my Auto shifter

Not sure of the best way to describe this. I have a 95 3.4L Auto and today the shifter started acting weird.
When I shift down, it's fine, but if I go to shift up, or to put it in PARK, it doesn't want to engage, and when I push up on the shifter, it's really sloppy, not like it used to be. It used to just lick up into place, but now, no way.
Do I have a linkage loose somewhere? Anyone have any ideas?

A plate could be worn in the shifter itself or the cable could be out of adjustment.

Check under the car on the drivers side of the transmission to see if the cable bracket is bent.
