OK, I was looking through the autoshopper for an ls1 and i cam across a firebird formula. This car looked exactly like a trans am with a ws6 ram air hood. I was wondering what the difference between this a regualr trans am and a ws6. Performance wise and interior / exterior. I was planning on gettign either a z28 or a trans am. This car is 15k with about 38k miles. A good deal or what, im sorry i dont know much as of yet becuase i was planning on a different car. If anyone would be able to educate me i would greatlely appreciate it. Thanks to all and sorry for being a dumbass. :D

OH and its a 2000 Firebird Formula.

I think a Formula is a trans am without any of the extras (power windos, power locks, trans am areo bits, ect.).

Oh. Forgot to menstion that they leave this stuff off to save weight to make it faster. Don't know by how much tho.

I think you guys are wrong. A firebird Formula is almost a trans am. Some of the differences are no t-tops, no ground effects, no high spoiler and a different front, no two huge fog lights. The formula is more rare than the TA but is probably faster because it is lighter. I am pretty positive you can get the same options in the formula as you can the TA.

The Trans AM upgrade (mostly appearance stuff) is an optional upgrade from the Formula as is the WS6- although you can do both upgrades. Check it out:

Formula's do have the T-top option, and was actually a standard for 02's as well as pw and pl. A Trans Am is a formula with the different front clip, gfx, rear bumper, and raised spoiler. The T/A also has some other features standard that are available options for the formula like leather. WS6 Formula's were offered up through 2000. Formula Ws6's are pretty rare cars, and I only see a few of them around here driving around. There just aren't a lot of Formula's on the road compared to v6's and T/A's.

Probably just leather seats, and TA's have ttops standard. Other than that I think it would be the same. No real performance difference, but you might want to make sure the hood was painted properly. I would say $15K is a little high, you might want to try and get it for 13.

It is probably a WS6 Formula (a rare Car) and a steal for 15K
And a Formula is a Firebird with all Power Accesories W/L/M and a Trans Am drivetrain and suspension I should Know I've owned 2 inth last 6 years.

I have a Formula and the only differences I've found are the front fascia, a larger rear spoiler, the leather seats in a TA look a little different, and the TA cost $3-4000 more then a Formula. I have pw. pl, T's, leather, 6 speed, LS1, 3:42 rear. What more could a guy want. I bot mine used, '01 with 16,000 for $21K. I thought I got a pretty good deal and didn't have to pay a few thousand more for the cosmetics on a TA. I was actually looking for a Formula because personally I don't care for the cosmetics.

I agree completely with you dude, the black Formula looks great. You've got all the right features and it looks like you got it for a great price. I would have looked more seriously at a Formula had I been more 'Formula aware' last summer.

All mentioned, but not together, the trans am has a differnet front and rear cover, so the foam absorber in front is different, and it has the side skirts(ground effects). So it basically has factory ground effects, well looks that way compared to a formula. The trans am would come standard I believe with power windows/locks etc... where they are an option on firebirds. The trans ams also have the high spoiler wherethe formula has a low molded in rear spoiler. The earlier tas also had the low spoiler but the high spoiler was an option, standard on 93/94 ta gt's, then an optiuon for 95 and maybe 96 and up. The formula wighs less since it doesn't have all the extras. They would come with non power windows locks etc... but are optional. If you want something for racing, get a stripped down formula. As far as the ws6 package goes, its worth it if you don't plan any suspension upgrapes, but if you want to mod one a good bit, then your just paying for the ws6 badge and cool looking hood. At the same price take a ws6 for sure! I believe thw ws6 has steering/oil coolers, heavier springs and sway bars, and the ram air adds some hp. I personally like the raptor hoods, so I'd buy a regular formula and buy the raptor hood.

All `98- up Formula's came standard with PW, PL, PM, and Monsoon CD the ONLY way to get a stripper Formula was to order a 1LE car.
