You ahve to register for my forums to read most articles now, since that is where I put them.
guionM 09-05-2002, 10:08 AM Darth, wish you waited on that Monte Carlo purchase yet? http://web.camaross.com/bb/smile.gif

Well, I didn't read the article, because I am not registered to read it, but I assume the current Monte will be getting a power boost?
I am torn with my Monte SS... I miss my Z28's power, handling, T-Tops, ride stance, seating position, etc...
BUT... the Monte is seriously put together very very very well. Not a rattle , squeek... nothing! If Camaro were built like the Monte, it'd be best in class with no competition. It rides so smooth compared to the Z) over bad roads. It has great comfort features like heated seats, dual zone climate control, OnStar, Trip Computer, etc etc etc.... nice little touches.
Now, what I do not like about the Monte is the lack of power (which hopefully this 4.8 story addresses) the softer handling, and FWD (I hate Torwue Steer, I HATE it!)
Perhaps I'll be making a trade if this 4.8 thing is true... I guess I should register, but it's just a pain-in-the-butt to have to register and all that just to read a message board. http://web.camaross.com/bb/tongue.gif

Plus the $2500 rebate was nice! http://web.camaross.com/bb/wink.gif http://web.camaross.com/bb/biggrin.gif

It isnt much to ask when you consider how much the site costs to run and it isn't littered with pop-ups http://web.camaross.com/bb/wink.gif
Z284ever 09-05-2002, 10:38 AM If true, this is interesting news.
Last I heard, 4T65-E transaxle couldn't handle the torque of a V8 and the beefier 4T80-E wouldn't fit the W-body without expensive surgery.
Also, the low end torque of a pushrod genIII smallblock seemed to completely overwhelm the traction capabilities of a FWD car.
Both of these issues would need to be addressed if the 4.8 were to be released in a W-body.

I know...the only thing that i am sure of is that somone sent me a tip saying they were tooling up to make a 4.8L car. Since the new Grand Prix engine is actually more powerful then the 4.8L one would assume that they already addressed these issues in the Pontiac. Another thing to think about is that they mentioned the Grand Prix would have a manually shiftable automatic. Maybe they have a new tranny no one knows about.
jg95z28 09-05-2002, 01:11 PM I've got the 4.8L in my '02 Tahoe and I just love the performance & the fuel economy. Of course its RWD, but I think it might weigh more than a Monte or Impala. http://web.camaross.com/bb/wink.gif
Z284ever 09-05-2002, 01:27 PM The 4.8 is a sweet motor. I sure hope all the engineering and traction problems can be resolved.
Dropping this motor into the Impala/Monte Carlo would elevate those cars from transportation appliances to real contenders.
Burmite 09-05-2002, 01:55 PM With that power boost, it give both car a little more respect on the road. This would be a step forward for these cars away from the boring image they have. I like seeing it though as a V8 FWD as a stop gap measure only until the RWD replacement is ready. The future product line at Chevrolet is looking good: RWD Impala SS, RWD Monte Carlo, 5th gen Camaro?, and a snake charming camless C6.
CamaroJim 09-05-2002, 08:24 PM sorry....but im not registering for a site to read info. It is a big pain in the ass and I am tired of getting bullsh!t spam in my mailbox!
besides, how does registering help with your expense? If they pay you, that means they will spam us....not worth it!
guionM 09-05-2002, 08:48 PM Just a thought. Cadillac currently has the most torque of any FWD car, and it handles torque steer through electronic traction control, otherwise it wouldn't be pretty when you mashed the peddle. If the current Monte Carlo torque steers with it's V6 now, what will it be like with the 4.8?

I am not selling email addresses and info...i don't even know how. There is no money in that crap anyway...liek banner ads. The problem I have with advertisers is though the site does alot of traffic they see 23 registered (after a month as of last Sunday) users in the forum and think that the site gets no traffic...all though yesterday alone it ran a 100,000 hits. Havinga bigger forum helps make advertisers think they are reaching a larger audiece. Considering all teh crap I go through to keep teh site free of pop ups and on a fast server...I don't see how registering for the forums is gonna put a big hurt on you.
I mean you don't wanna register it's your loss almost 700 people have in teh last three days and I am on pace to set new traffic records.

smallwood 09-06-2002, 12:30 AM Sounds interesting, if only it were RWD...
Guess the impending GTO is my next possible GM purchase.

formula79 do have any Idea if the 4.8 will be the same iron block one from the trucks? I would think they would use the aluminum block from the 5.3L and then add the Intake and other parts from the LS1.

I realise you're trying to plug your site, but could you maybe repost the story in this thread? It would make a lot of sense to do so.
As a side note, tho I can't see your logs, I have a feeling you're going to gain some users for the forums this way, but when people realise they have to sign up to read the main features that have brought your site into existance you'll start to lose traffic. I could be wrong tho. On the other hand I never read the New York Times anymore because of the same thing. Its not the signing up for most people that's the hassle, its keeping track of all the info for places you _sometimes_ visit.

Now I definately don't since this ended up being unfounded.

Well, at least the turbo V6 SS with an automatic is still on. :(

Actually traffic is up...I am using it to build the forum...it is hard to get advertisers without an active forum. The hosting bill on a site that gets alot of hits like mine can get up there. If I can go to an advertiser and say "hey I have an active forum with XXXXXX number people" then it is much easier to secure advertising. If you can't register for the forum outta respect for the site....then may I don't want you eating my bandwidth. It's not like I am making money off this mess at this point:) In 2 weeks I have gained 1500 members which is quite signifigant. Soon as I get some advertisers the restriction will probaly be lifted.
