Best GEAR for N20?

What gear ratio (3.73 or 4.10) for a 6spd is best used with N20?
Most likely using a 75 shot, at most 100 shot....

Thank you

IMHO a 3.73 with a M6. Mine eats the hell out of my 4.10's. If I ever blow the rear or upgrade to a 12 bolt/9", I would opt for the 3.73's. I am sure I would go through the traps in 5th. Before the N2O, my shift lite would be on for a few secs before I cross the line.

I went from 3.73's to 4.11's and stopped spraying in first gear.

I have the 3.73s ......you may even want to stick with the 3.42s and spend the $ elsewhere.

I always go with this....
M6 NA-4.10 Power adder-3.73
A4 NA 3.73 Power adder-3.42

Derrick,

You and I would be a good heads up race. I run a 78 camaro..355,solid roller .600/.600 242/250,TFS heads,
4000 stall, with 4.56's... she has ran in the 10s in good air. Its pretty consistant in the 11.00 to 11.teens on Hoosier dirt tires.

Pill it till ya Kill it!!!!

I guess I have done something right on my car for a change!
I have an A4 with 3:42 gears & a 3200 Vigilante converter with a 150 shot this should be a good combination this summer if I can get the car to hook?

If you have a power adder and especially if you have the stock rear, stick with 3.42's. You will be shocked at how quickly first gear is gone even with 3.42's while on the spray. 3.42's will be stronger with the 10-bolt anyways.

My opinion:

10-bolt: Leave the stock gears, use money to save up for 12-bolt/9"

Real rear end; depends on tires you run at the track. 26" tall tire (which is what I run), 3.73's. I did the calculations before I bought my rear-end, and 3.73's were the gear of choice. With 4.10's and 26" tall tires, I woulda had to shift into 5th right before the traps both internally stock (where I was shifting at 5800), and with heads/cam. Actually, I might have gotten away with it on the heads/cam, as I rev it out more than I was thinking I would when I did my initial calculations. Then again, I'd rather not spray the car to 7000 RPM's on the stock shortblock, so 3.73's were the choice for me.

If you run 28" tall tires, by all means, 4.10's.

P/A would be 3.43s. you get more for your grunt and less spin ;)

I am running 3.73s and it looks like I will be stepping back to at least 3.55s for sub 10 second pass's on a stock PCM ;)

I've had the 3.42's, 3.73's and now have the 4.11's. JMO, my car pulls a whole lot harder "when" it hooks with the 4.11's. I can spray in 1st but not till I feel it hook, usually bout 20ft. out of the hole. I very rarely visit the 1/4 just the 1/8 mostly, and I cross the line around 5500 or so in 4th gear. So I guess if you run mostly in the 1/8 4.11's seem like the perfect gear for me. I really dont want to shift to 5th but it looks like you would have to for the 1/4 mile marker. I'm running DR's, and usually launch around 4k, and hit the 150 shot bout 20ft. out. Slicks are going on this yr. and I'll let u know how those 5-5500 clutch dumps go:metal:

Steep gears and N20 usually don't mix well, especially on a stock rear. Some one else said it.....stock 10 bolt, stock gears. With 26" tall tires, and a 12 bolt 3.73's are the sweet setup with the 6M. And that is what I'm getting very soon!>>>>come on tax returns!!

Talking A-4 is a bit off topic , but I find that in my A-4 the 2.73 gear with 2800 stall on nitrous = 1.69 60' times on street tires!!!!

Now the M-6 would benefit from 4.10s , because on those things street tires are not an option anyway. They need at least DR with the stock 3.42s.

I'm sorry to be off topic. It seems like you elaborated on a A4 car a bit more than me though.

No No ...not saying you were any more off topic than me.
I was elaborating on what you said and run with the A4 comment just to add depth to the conversation.

I meant I hate to be off topic. Not you.

well lets just the the LESS HP you have the MORE gear you need.

The A4 guys running 2.72 are just cheap and not taking the best advantage of there combinations :D
