For anyone using TunerCat out there, do your fans stay on through the entire read/program time, or do they just come on and off quickly at the beginning and end of reading or programming? Also, post the year and model of your car please. Thanks.

Always in my 94 with 94 PCM, M6 car, unless I pull relays.

On the whole time...I will second what Doc said.
If it bothers you that they come on just pull the relay.
The only time you would see a problem with the fans running is if the battery voltage is just on the verge of being to low.
Otherwise, they have no effect on the process.

Now you guys got me second guessing myself. I'm pretty sure mine only go on and off at the beginning and end of a read. Programming may be different. I only got one program to work so far, but that one lost the pcm. But I think by that time I may have had the relays pulled just cause my battery was so low. The only time I knew for sure that the fans stayed on all the time was after the pcm flash was lost and they would just turn on and stay on as soon as you turned on the ignition. I e-mailed Tunercat and Andrew at AKM, so we'll see what they have to say. Guess i'll just have to wait till the pcm's come back to find out for sure. Thanks for the input. Hope we get more cause i'm curious if anyone elses does that. Thanks.

Definately make sure the battery is fairly well charged, a single read or write with the relays in place sucks a good amount of juice from the battery, it drives BOTH fans. You need more than 11.9v through the whole process in order to program the car without losing the PCM, do not run a charger during the process either. I believe this is because it needs a reference voltage within a certain spec, but I dont recall for certain why.

So, if your close to 12v, I wouldn't risk it, because it could drop at or below the needed voltage during programming.

All, Tunercat says it's latest versions of its Flash read and program turn the fans OFF during the process, and those were the versions I was using. Are all of you using the latest version or versions? I'm assuming Tuner ment 1.98 or 1.99. Although you should all be using 1.99 due to the 1.98 bug, but I think both versions shut the fans off during reading or programming.

I'm still using V 1.73....I'm just a little behind the times I guess. :D
I just haven't taken the time to run the update.

Heh, so they took some suggestive input, nice, and nice to know your car isn't somehow wacky.

Just replied on your other post then I saw this one. My fans come on momentarilly during the read/write on my 95. This happens with the 1.73 and the 1.98. Have not tried 1.99 yet.
