Spec 2 or 3 clutch?,- if 3 then what kind?

Well, I'm leaning towards a Spec 2 or 3. If I get the Spec 3, which kind? Kevlar, carbon, ceramic?
Thanks!

The mcleod dual friction or the slp clutch is what i would recommend. i have had spec clutches before.. Went Mcleod and never looked back.. Ceramic is the best material if your sold on a star though...

Everyones opinion is different. Get something that is going to match your mods and driving habbits. I went with a SPEC stage III kevalr disc. I do a lot of driving traffic, around town, and a LOT of strip time. The kevlar is a great comprimise between streetability and INSANE holding pwer at the track. I do 5000+ launches at the track all the time with no problems. The thing is the clutch does chatter sometimes and it only gets worse as you go with the carbon or ceramic. The only way to pull out then is to do a race launch, lol I've heard nothing but good things about the Mcleod Street twin. Go with the flow and plan for your mods. LATA~~~rob

With your mods even a Stage 2 Spec would be overkill. I have all the bolts ons and the Stage 2 has been a champ. When I get a new CAM, heads ported, rockers, etc. I will continue to use the STage 2 as it's rated up to 400 HP I think. When I get a blower I will upgrade to the McCleod.

My Spec Stage 3 Ceramic is ordered and in the mail. Right now all I have is a catback on my car! Sure the stage 3 maybe overkill but I don't want to be buying another clutch anytime soon after I complete my mods that I'am doing to the car. If I were you, get the stage 3 Ceramic or if you have the money, get a Street Twin!

What kind of spec clutch do you have? Stage 2? 3? Disc material?

I just installed a Spec stage 3 clutch with carbon material on it. The motor is basically stock with bolt ons, and the mods in my sig to come in the next month or so, just waiting for some Comp R lifters. I only have about 40 miles on it, but I must say this thing chatters like a ****. You need to slip it out at a higher RPM than you would with the stock clutch to keep the chatter to a minimum. it seems to grab like a ****, but havent really been able to test that yet. I am hoping that the chatter will calm down in the next 500 mils or so like Spec said it would. Anyone else experience alot of chattering with this clutch first installed?

My Stage III Ceramic doesn't chatter at all unless it gets hot, then only a little bit. About 8-10k (really not sure, lol) on it. Did spin it once in a dry waterbox w/ ET Streets, but after 20 minutes of driving it acted just like it used to. Drove it another 500 miles and made another 8 launches down the strip since without any signs of problems, so I think the clutch is still good.

Roomate has a Stage III Carbon; no problem yet on it, no chattering problems either.

Not to say I don't personally know people that HAVE had a problem w/ this clutches. One friend had a Stage III Kevlar that simply wore out quickly (few thousand miles and little track use, internally stock at the time 94Z running 6psi on an A-trim). Even though the clutch was out of warranty, Star sent him a new one, since this had been a problem for a few people; he got a Stage III Carbon, no more problems.

Another friend has had nothing BUT problems w/ his Stage III Carbons. First time, PP bolt backed out and flew around, and took about everything it could out with it. Second time, disc cracked, though they sent him a whole new clutch. 3rd time he said it was shifting weird, pulled the clutch and it looked fine, but decided to go to a stock setup since his car is stock anyway, and thinks there is a problem w/ the tranny now. But other than his cracked disc fiasco, the problems really were not Star related.

If you plan on heavily modding your car in the future then I would spend the money now and get a McLeod Street Twin

Well, I was leaning towards a Spec 2 but that's Kevlar, and no choice in material unless I get a Spec 3. Does anyone else have or heard of Kevlar wearing down fast? And any other problems with Kevlar? Or should I go with a Spec 3 and go with Carbon. I don't think I need ceramic. Well I don't plan on putting nitrous or a supercharger at least not for another 5 years, no money for that kind of mod. But I plan on putting a few others like rockers, and maybe a cam, throttle 52mm, etc. So A clutch to handle around 450HP would be plenty if I ever get that high.
Any thoughs?
