Buying a Talon TSi - Advice Needed Please

I'm buying a car for my brother and stumbled upon a 1991 Eagle Talon TSi. The car is fully loaded, 130K KM's, Automatic, AWD, Turbo, etc. I'm not too knowledgable with these cars or Turbo's in general - does anyone have any advice/tips/things to look for before I sign the dotted line tomorrow???

I'm doing an ICBC check and looking into hiring a mobile mechanic to do a used vehicle inspection. Is there any other way to cover my a$$???

TIA.

:)

yes.. i had a 1990 TSi AWD.. the thing was done up and fast..
but i'd never own another one.. mechanical nightmare.. tranny blows on you at least once a year.. lol... motor doesn't last at all
my motor had to be replaced after 100,000K.
my friend has a 94 TSi at 140,000K, the valves just blew (he has no mods and drives like a princess)

if you are serious about getting a talon, just make sure its 100% perfect
check out www.dsm.org ( i was a member)

You are suposed to toss these cars in the garbage @ 100,000km...if it's a turbo car. My step-Dad owns a '90 Lazer, 16-valve, non-turbo with 60,000km, that he uses just when his motor bike is off the road and it has NEVER had a problem....it still smells new! Buy a non-turbo.

With a little more boost and a couple simple boltons instant 13s and completely streetable :)

That's what I think of when I hear 'Talon'. But yeah, they do break down a lot.

mine ran 13.9@100... didn't push it hard enough though.. tranny was on its way out! lol

i was running 18PSI on stock turbo. Those things are easy to put into 13's and even high 12's.. but then what? lol

If you do buy it let me know I will hook you up with a friend of my husbands that has a 91 Turbo Talon that he races all the time with. Thinks he goes 12s @ the 1/4 But he belongs to DSM ( Diamond star Motor club)

Tammy, you're talking about Shawn Jewett right? I work with him on dayshift. I believe he's in the low 12's with it, and it's fairly reliable too, but he's got a pile o' cash into it too.

Yeppers thats who I am talking about. Brent.Dan works with him as well ( at lease use to) I know hes got a lot of cash in to it. But thats his Daily driver & his Dragracer.

I watched him a few times last year race & he kept blowing a line ( i think it was a vaccum line) But when he got it fixed he screamed down that 1/4 mile.

I know he will be willing to help out anyone who just asks him just like the car club guys.

He is extremely helpful. He's helping a good friend of mine in Hawaii right now with tuning issues.

Yeppers He was giving me a bad time about my Slowmobal. ( my Iroc that does 14.7s) & he had a friend (someone that owns a Mazda Miata (another guy Dan works with I think his name is Dave?) Taking pics of us Dragracing at Pacific one day & caught my front end of my car almost raising off the ground when I was doing my launch.

he was also giving me hints on launching. since my RT is normally right about .8s & .9s lol

Also have a '90 Laser RS Turbo, nice car, 155K, no major problems over the last 10 years..... but like anything you have to keep it up. If its been raced/modded I would pass
