Both vehicles are completely unnecessary, IMO.

I saw a sticker once on Suburban that read "I'm changing the weather." Quite funny, actually.

Anyway, I think that vehicles of the size of Excursion and Suburban should only be sold to military or transportation industry / companies that demonstrate the need of using such vehicles. They are completely unnecessary, I would think, with their size, and are a hazard to other motorists when it comes to accidents.

Good riddance! I knew the Excursion was a slow seller, the only real reason you'd buy it over a Suburban is to say you have the absolute biggest, but it's kind of surprising to me that Ford would give it up so soon.

Can't say I'll shed a tear. Still, I know some people love SUVs (bling, bling) as much as we love musclecars. Death to all oversized SUVs.

A full size pickup with a cap is just as big, only difference is that there are seats in the suburban and Excursion.

maybe Ford will use all those extra V10's in mustangs now!

Now, if another 75% of those road-albatrosses die off, we're getting somewhere!

Just keep call them "station wagons" and maybe people will get the point that they're the BORING choice.

Isn't the Hummer (H1) even bigger than the Excursion? Just can't imagine driving something that big.

One difference is that pickup buyers tend to actually use their trucks, so I can see that. But the public is buying SUVs to replace cars & minivans. Automakers creating new markets and bulldozing "truckloads" of money into SUVs at the expense of cars (cough..GM..cough*) didn't help.

(*Disclaimer: I know Excursion isn't from GM, but till Ford faced a drying bank account last year...due to chronic recalls & Firestone tires...had a pretty ambitious new car schedule, while GM forgot what cars were.)

This is just the attitude that almost bankrupt GM-- complacency and arrogance. What worked forty years ago doesn't necessarily work now, and it took GM far too long to realize that. Since they shifted their focus to trucks over the past 5-6 years the corporation is much healthier, which has enabled them to continue producing our beloved f-bodies (and almost every other car line) at a loss.

Thank the Gods. Everytime I see one on the road there is only one person in it. What a waste of space, gas, resources, etc. Now if it would only drag down those annoying ricers with it.

I'll take rice *anyday* over slow, ugly clumsy, inefficient piles of crap that people don't even use to go offroad. It's all about the bling, bling factor and intimidating drivers of smaller vehicles.
