I just got a new toy/project , a 86 Iroc z , car sat for a while and i found a couple damaged plug wires that explanes why it would turn and start but run rough and stall , fixed that but saw that the carb was leaking like crazy so that is being rebuilt as i write , the question i have is before i removed carb or fixed the wires on car , I pluged the battery in and the choke light came on constant , weather key was in ignition or not , Does anyone have any ideas ?

thanks

That is just a normal "dummy" light. Your carb has a choke and if it sticks the light will come on, but if its not even running it doesn't matter.

NO, don't pull the bulb. It is the idiot light that lets you know when the alternator is kicking the bucket too--something the voltage gauge won't do.

It also signals that a certain relay under the dash is dying. So you need to keep the light.

Check the alternater wires... especially the one that jumps the post to the white plug... this is the one that created the same problem for me
