anybody run firehawk wideoval tires?

so i went to the tire store to look at some tires for the Z since the ones out back look like drag radials now ,so i think i have settled on the 245/50r16 for the back , any one tried these tires and i can get them for 109.99 each and there rate for 189mph too

what do ya think

I have run them for a while now.

Grip is decent, but what I really like about them is that they are VERY predictable and forgiving. They "talk to you" on the edge and break away gradually. They don't have the ultimate grip the BFG KDW's I had before, but when those broke lose there was little warning and the car snapped fast. I even ran one HPDE on the Wide Ovals and they did just fine on a rather high speed track (140mph front stetch) with some high speed turns.

What are you planning on doing with the car?

I run them on my TA in the warmer months and they are a nice tire and seem to be holding up well, they have huge rim protectors and cornering is great. I also run Continental Conti-Extreme contact for the colder months, and they have been an awesome tire, with great all season capability but excellent dry road handling as well.

I switched to the Wide Ovals when I put the Z06 wheels on. They have been working just fine. For the money, I don't think you can get a better tire.

What are you planning on doing with the car?

well i plan on using them as daily driving and some weekend 1/4 mile action every once in a while , but my concern is wet performance ,right now with the riken raptors i can barley step on the gas at a light when wet and the ass is all over the place ,my wife hates it and it scares her a lil but not me cause i know how to handle it but she still gets freaked .
and in wet corners it sloppy and squirly . sometimes it drives me ape**** and gets annoying

so i wonder how the wet and dry cornering straight line, and curve performance is on those wide ovals and out the hole from a dig

The Goodyear is the least expensive, so I bought a set. They're great tires, and they're not kidding when they say they're awesome in the wet. However, there are two noteworthy drawbacks -- they are loud as hell, and they don't tell you where the limit is at all. They don't snap away from you suddenly, but they start to howl LONG before you get to the limit.

From what I've read, the KDW is almost as good, and more expensive, so I'm not going to bother with that.

According to the reviews, Michelin is slightly better in every way, communicates its limits much nicer, and is a fair bit more expensive. It's widely accepted as the best sports car tire out there -- it comes stock on the ZR1, every Ferrari, every Lamborghini, every Porsche... you get my drift. I'll be buying a set in the spring.

Unfortunately, the Michelin isn't available in a 245/50R16. You'd have to step up to 17x9 wheels. I did that about a year ago, and I've just been waiting for the tires that came on them (BFG SuperSport all-seasons, which are nowhere near as nice as my GS-D3s were) to wear out.

well i found the michelin pilot sport 2 for a cheaper price than the f-1's and i do know the reviews on them are pretty damn good and the amg mercedes run them to on the s55 500 hp car so i think they would do great on my Z.

so im kinda torn between the wide ovals , the ps2's and the bfg g-force sports but there kinda pricy , im lookin for a tire that has a good price but has decent performance.

I haven't had any problems like you described in the rain. I don't drive in the rain much, but the few times I have, they have been just fine at highway speeds.

As for out of the hole traction. Its not bad, but its not great. You can certainly do better for grip, but when you factor in price, they are pretty good.

I would describe them as a great all around tire for the money. Kind of a good bang for your buck tire.

Aren't we all? I've found that for the most part, you get what you pay for. You can have a cheap tire with good performance, but the treadwear will suck, it'll be noisy, etc.

There are two places where I don't mess around with cheap stuff on my car: the tires, and the brakes.

On my Camaro, I don't mess around with cheap stuff for anything -- but on my other cars, I might skimp here and there -- but never with the brakes, and NEVER with the tires!
