REPORT: Cadillac quietly unveils new, old-look logo

New:

Old:

As with its model line, Cadillac has performed surgery on its logo. The previous logo, at right, was a sleek bit of matte color and metal unveiled in 1999 as a result of Cadillac wanting a new icon to represent its "art & science" campaign. The aim was "to combine suggestions of high technology and elegance through faceted shapes-inspired by the stealth fighter and by gemstones." Sure.

The new logo cranks up the texture effect on the wreath, adds texture inside the crest, and plays up the embossing and light effects of the crest edge. It's new, but it's got a shiny bit of retro about it that we don't mind.

Cadillac doesn't appear to have said anything about it, and while it appears on the 60-day Guarantee site we can't tell if it's made it onto Caddy's official plot of the interwebs. The real test, though, will be how it looks when it makes it onto the cars. Thanks for the tip, Scott!

I'm looking right at these two pictures, and with the exception of some digital lighting effects on the 'new one', I am having a hard time finding any differences.

Maybe that's why Cadillac has been so quiet about the update... because the logo is fine the way it is, and there really is no update.

For curiosity's sake, maybe I'll stop at a Cadillac dealership this week and check out my 2008 SRX's badge vs others on the lot....

2010 SRX has the old one. I wonder how long before they change them over. The difference is very subtle, most will not notice.

wow they put some texture, in the form of dots inside a geometric shape the size of a pencil eraser.
Wonder how much a graphic design compnay got paid to come up with that.

Yeah I'd keep it quiet too. Hardly any change what so ever. Nothing you could ever tell seeing it on a car driving down the road.

Someone at their ad agency just discovered that Adobe Illustrator has gotten a lot more powerful 3D effects in the past 10 years...

For something as much as a non-issue this is, you're probably right.

Bring back the ducks!

I guess they "revised" it because it has been about 10 years since they last did.

Anybody else remember when they used one of the ducks on the old logo to advertise the Catera when it came out? Must have held the Catera's lack of success against him.

I do, which is why I incorrectly said "ducks".

Ends up they were orginally black merlettes (french for birds?) then white swans then later merlettes again, before they were removed altogther.
