I had a 140 amp LT1 alternator on my 87 GTA (with the serpentine belt drive setup) using the adapter bracket from a B-body car. The 140 was great but I came across something even better. It seems as though the new 130 amp Delphi alternators GM uses on the 8100 V8 vortec engines will fit on the 3rd gen F-body V8 serpentine bracket. You will have to change your alternator plug to fit this new style unit; enlongate one of the serp bracket holes and use a smaller bolt so this alternator will bolt on; fabricate some kind of a rear support bracket to help support the back of the alternator so the serp bracket won't eventually break; and change the pulley that comes on this unit (because it may be a 7-rib) to a 6-rib pulley to fit the F-body's serp belt.
Something I noticed about this newer-style alternator is that it seems to have a higher charge output at lower RPMs compared to the earlier CS-series units.
The ACDelco P/N for this 130 amp alternator is: 321-1813.
Here is a link to a picture of this alternator: http://207.74.147.153/servlet/com.entigo.acdelcocatalog.servlet.ProcessImageServ let?languagecd=null&countrycd=null&user=InternetUser&mfgname=ACDELCO&prodlinecd=31&acpartnbr=321-1813
I will get pics put up on my website soon of this alt installed on the car.
