New Parts Being Installed

I can't wait, I dropped my car off to Chris over at his dealership today. The car is getting some nice new parts. I am installing a new ported
92mm Fast intake & PTM 92mm TB, Sphon adjustable Tq Arm, ARP underdrive crank pulley , 30lb injectors & 4,000 Vig stall converter.

Then I am going to have Dr. Phil tune the car and see how things go.

I hope to get a chance to run WHIPLASH before the cars get put away.

That would be nice. Should get there on the bottle, small shot. The car was much slower than I thought it would be but hope this corrects some of the issues.

I'll get it to the tarck one more time this year and see what it does.

Small cam with an average head.. those numbers in your sig actually seem kind of high.. change the cam. You might see 10hp the intake but really without a better cam....

Sounds like a good plan.

I thought the car in Bill's sig was his old car, no?

Either way, looking forward to hearing how the changes did for ya. When you get out to the track, let me know, I might head out and spectate.

PS. I might be able to sneak in one track day out of my car as well. If it gets put back together in time. Hoping for 2-3 more weekends of work on it.

You are right, sold the old car and bought a new one about two months ago. I updated my signature to reflect the new car.

The new cars performance was lacking so I decided to see what I can do to help it out. I hope to get the car back at the end of next week.

As soon as I get it back I will shoot you a message and meet up with you.

That would be cool if you could get yours out one more time. What are you doing to it?

Before I decided to do the swap, I talked with others that have done the Fast 92mm intake and 92mm TB swap and have about the same size cam as I do. The feedback I got from 90% of them was they picked up between 20RWHP & about 20RWTQ. The Tq gains came in the mid to high range.

We will see what happens. With all the other stuff I am doing at the same time I hope to see a good gain.

I did find out one thing that answers why the car only ran 12.5. The hand controls I use to drive were only getting about 80 percent of full throttle. I will adjust this and should make a BIG difference.

Bill, I'm ready when your car is. Can't wait to see it. Shoot, its just 2 miles away getting tuned. You better give me a heads up when your picking it up!!! That will be your chance to run me.

I will let you know. The problem is I don't know when the car will be finished up. So, it may be a last minute pickup.

Don't you worry. I will make a special trip to meet up with you ASAP. I still need to get my bottle filled and test it out.

I'll let you know when I am heading out. How far are you from Chris's house?

Later,

Bill

Bill, do you have any dyno numbers or track times for your current setup? I was planning on doing almost exactly the same thing you are with the intake, TB, and injectors. My current setup puts down 386 rwhp and runs just under 12 seconds in the 1/4. I'm curious to see what gains this will make.

To be truthful, I was pretty disappointed in how the car ran before the recent work. I did take it to the track once and could only manage a 12.5. There were a couple reasons the car was so slow. When the previous owner had the car he did the head and cam package, then had the car tuned. After that he swapped out the 3:23 gears for 3:73 and added a 3,400 converter. The problem is he didn't have the tune redone after the gears and converter. So, when I took the car to the track it had a bit of a problem. I couldn't get good shifts between 2-3 they were very long and super soft. In addition, I drive the car with hand controls and when I took it in to Chris he found that the hand controls were only getting about 80% throttle. So, this is also being fixed.

So, for now I don't have a good answer for you. I should get the car back this weekend and plan to hit the track one more time to see what happens. I see you live in Waterford. I am going to try to head over to see Chris one night so he can get a test drive in. You are welcome to meet up with us and take the car for a drive and see what you think.

Dr. Phil is tuning the car so I have high hopes with him tuning and the new parts that Chris installed.

Wow, I was looking at your setup and am very impressed with your 11.95. You did that with a 2,800 TCI stall? What kind of 60' times were you able to get? Step up to 3,400 to a 3,600 converter and you could see 11.6 - 11.7s

You ran a 12.5 at 80% throttle?

I guess it is just me but I can't fully understand the impact of only 80% throttle? I know it means I ran much slower than I could have but the million dollar question is how much? Does that mean the car should have ran a 12.2 or 12.1 or should it have ended up in the high 11s?

Maybe Chris will see this and reposnd to exactly what the controls were not doing.

yeah bill, id have guessed at 100% throttle it would have prolly done 12.1 or so. that 2/3 shift Im sure was killing your et's too. cuase you have to generally lift off the throttle to get the shift into 3. by then ,youre pretty much crossing the finish line at a very low rpm. what 60's did you run? thought i remembered you telling me you didnt get any good 60's either? that will have a significant effect also on the ET.

one more thing, 224/228 cam. right? did you find out yet from lingenfelter about those pistons? the sooner you can start researching the cam the better. dont forget we can always flycut them. I have a head to use, just need to buy the cutter(s) if we need to do that. youve spent the money on the intake/tbody, hate to see you cut a corner and settle for a smaller then ideal cam cause you want to save some labor. jmho
