I don't think it's a plug-in hybrid. Beats Volt's 240 mpg rating.

My guess is that the 2nd person sits behind, not beside the person.
I also see that it is imperial gallon as well and that won't add up to be better than the Volts 240mpg. Also consider, that this car is still a concept. I kind of like the idea of having a small car like this, but I wonder about crash test ratings of a car that is so light.

So for VW to actually have a "car" (it's not much of a car, I agree) that is not a plug in hybrid and consistently gets 200+ mpg is a considerable achievement. This VW is more of a proof of concept I think.
If they could make it a 4 seater and if it still got 80+ mpg that would be better.
OK, I didn't realize it's in imperial gallons (it's about 235 mpg US), but having said that, Volt's numbers are pulled out of someone's ****. They're completely meaningless. You can go infinite miles per gallon in Volt, or you can go as low as 40 mpg if running from depleted batteries that are being charged by the gas engine.

Either way, the mileage is impressive, but there is little to no storage space, and we haven't seen a crash test rating for this car. I am afraid this car would get flattened on a US highway.
If we are talking concepts then I would rather have the Opel Eco-Speedster
During initial testing the 112 hp concept car reached a maximum speed of more than 155 mph while fuel consumption on the combined cycle was an incredible 113 mpg.
