Spare tire

Has anybody had to modify their spare tire well to get a spare to fit? I am trying to fit a LS1 16" spare into the back of my 94.

Doesn't look like it's going to happen unless I get out the hammer and pound on the inner fender and on the sheet metal that goes between the tail light and car interior.

Are the spare tire wells different from one car to the other?

I have an LS1 spare in my car and it fits in the well no problem. Oustide diameter should be the same as the LT1, just a larger rim for more brake clearance.
