GM to halt Chevy Traverse output for 2 months
DETROIT -- General Motors Co. will suspend production of the 2010 Chevrolet Traverse crossover for at least two months while it moves tooling to another factory.
"I can't give you the exact time frame it'll be down, but it'll be a couple months if not longer," said spokesman Chris Lee.
GM's plant in Spring Hill, Tenn., will build the Traverse until mid-to-late November, Lee said. The Traverse will join the Buick Enclave, Saturn Outlook and GMC Acadia crossovers now built in Delta Township.
Lee said GM has added overtime shifts at Spring Hill for the third quarter to boost inventory before the switch.
At the end of July, GM had a 68-day supply, or 17,400 units, of the Traverse, down from 82 days a month earlier. GM launched the Traverse in October 2008. Through July, GM has sold 47,369 Traverses.

I was gonna say the same thing... if production is down 2 months before it is up and runnign at the new location, there will probably be a shortage of the vehicle for a period of time.
My uncle sent his Econoline to the crusher and got one. I also would prefer the Acadia though.
With the Outlook going away they probably don't need to have two separate lines to meet demand.
Sounds like they'll be ok with availability for a while.

I saw one on the road the other day...
Wow! It reminded me slightly of an Audi Q7. Very sporty looking, wasn't cheap looking. I was impressed!
Surprised to see that they're going to suspend production for a little while.

My friend's wife just got one a few weeks ago. I drove it and it was pretty impressive overall. They like it a lot better than the 05 Toyota Sienna they traded in for it, but then agian the Sienna had 85k miles on it and was beat to hell by their kids so who knows what a new vs new comparison would have yielded.
I drove it and was impressed. Very smooth and quiet ride... decent but not great power. I've also driven the Enclave and think the Enclave is worth the extra 4-5 grand or so that it costs when comparably equipped to the Traverse.
I did look up info on their Traverse and remember being surprised that it was being built in Spring Hill, TN when the Saturn, GMC, and Buick versions were all being built up in Michigan.
So what's happening at Spring Hill? Is it just dead now or do they plan on producing something else there eventually? I was looking at some real estate maps there the other day and the percentage of homes being forclosed on there is several times higher than the average rate in the state of TN.

My sister has a Buick Enclave and the car is just gorgeous inside and out. Is the Traverse built on the same platform? I haven't seen any on the road for comparison.
