What does RedPlanet do at GM?!?

Since he can no longer be the Assistant Camaro Brand Manager.;)

I heard awhile back he went to work for Jon Moss's special hi-po car group, but why would he be there?

Yea, Red's over at the GM Performance Div doing consumer related stuff (like managing relationships with the driving schools, etc..). He's also doing some autoshow activities, as well as a few secret duties. ;)

I find no humor in that, in fact, I feel the opposite of humor in that, like extreme dislikeness (hate). If he jokes around like that again I think I might have to find his car and run over it w/ my neighbors monster truck :D:mad:

I thought the 30 year nap joke was really funny. He was referencing the Camaro to the GTO, returning after 30 years of being gone. We know Camaro will return sooner than that, so in the meantime, take it lightheartedly.

AHA!

See... that makes a lot more sense, and actually makes it somewhat funny... I didn't realize the connection because the quote weas taken out on context!

Thanks for this post! It should clear a little up, and at leats see where the humor was supposed to come from...

Big_Z

well that clears it up a ton! He probably said it sarcastically! Like you would if someone asked you something ridiculous.

"Will the Camaro ever come back?"

"Maybe after a 30 year nap *wink* "

It's all in how ya say it :D

The written word is incapable of gracefully denoting a sarcastic comment.

Decromin, please take note of that fact, because I took it as rather insulting also.

And, if I got to join the GM Performance division and OCCASIONALLY get to work on a real project, I'd be more than happy to clean the water coolers.

Hey, RP - taking any resumes?

actually, I took it as a joke! (and sure hoped it was meant as one!)

(and hey, I went out and looked at the water cooler and gave it a quick dusting just to make sure!)

(actually, we don't have water coolers........we have soda/bottled water machines....but I made sure I Zaino'd 'em right after they arrived...............................)

As to Bob Lutz' comment........chill out. Just as you should never judge a car/truck by a picture....understand that context is everything and it probably isn't wise to jump to conclusions.

It all goes back to my comment....just because they aren't working on a car that is now called Camaro...doesn't mean that they are working on one that could be a Camaro:D

See earlier in this thread... it appears Mr. Lutz was making a joke based on the fact that GTO was gone 30 years...

Makes things wrose when taken out of context.

Oh well, I don't feel to bad though. I am just getting tired of hearing all the BS from the ford camp.

It's easy to take quotes like that out of context when we are all on pins and needles so to speak. I guess it's just time to be patient, sit back and wait...

Have we forgotten the subtle hints written by Red Planet over the past couple of years? If so or if you haven't seen those hints let me remind you. He said read "All Corvettes are Red".

When you read that book, formula79's brief quote above become very crystal clear. If you don't have time or you're simply too lazy to read the book then click and read the brief commentary on it here:

I have to admit that I feel better now.. about that bad joke:rolleyes:

Will this be true?...

Despite the fact that the current program to develop the Camaro is "unofficial" much like the C-5 Corvette's developmental team was there are credible sources that are saying that this car will almost certainly be built for a tentative release in 2004-2005. Hopefuly the slogan "We'll be there" applies to the Camaro which remains as the only affordable rear wheel drive V8 powered car in GM's lineup. Lets keep our finger's crossed in the meantime and hope that the faithful within the organization keep this car alive and "Be there" for us in 2004.

2004 or 2005 maybe that soon, or right now is too late?

The 2004-2005 is inaccurate in retrospect. I wrote the article a 1 year and a half ago. There is no telling when they will release it now.

"Just because they aren't working on a car that is now called Camaro"

- meaning that the name is not being used as of this time -

"... doesn't mean that they are working on one that could be a Camaro."

OK - to me, that says that they are not working on one that could be a Camaro - a 'loss' either way. :(

Maybe (hopefully) your intended comment was that just because they aren't working on a car called Camaro means that they are working on a car that could be called a Camaro when the time comes.

:D

Does that make sense ??

I think I wrote it clearly !!

Oh, Red - yes, the natives are restless.

It's hard not to be when Ford has the upper hand in pony car excitement for the next 2 or 3 years that we are allowed to know of ! :alert:

Some help from the Big Wigs at G.M. would be beneficial ...

Anyway, thanks for your insights !!

History nuts will note that the 67 Camaro was developed under a completely different name and only named Camaro at the last minute.

Yup... as I remember the story, Chevy changed it from Panther to Camaro , because they wanted something 'less aggressive sounding' or something along those lines (remember Camaro means 'friend' or 'companion' in French) .... remember this was the whole "Make love not war time" :D

Firebird was called Banshee originally, but they changed it to Firebird when someone pointed out a Banshee is a wailing witch ghost or something like that. Banshee has been used on many Pontiac concept cars since, though...
