removing TPMS from C5 wheels

I am getting ready to put new rubber on my 02 vette rims. They have the tire pressure monitors in them. I would like to remove them and install regular valve stems in their place and someone told me that regular stems would not work. I was also told that if I don't put runflats on these rims they will require a lot of wheel weight to balance if I leave the sensors in. Anyone else go through this that can tell me what the deal is? a part number or a link to valve stems that work would be great.

LOL who the hell is telling you that!? You can run non-run-flat tires and all things equal they will probably required less to balance since non run flat tires weight slightly less. Of course manufacturing, quality control and if your wheel is slightly bent ultimately determine the weight required to balance.

Also you can run standard valve stems. The valve stem hole dia is the same as a standard shreder valve. I know this because I worked at Discount Tire for 4 years and have replaced standard valve stems with TPMS and vise versa. Why would GM manufacture a different wheel (different hole dia) specifically for a car optioned with TPMS? Doesn't make sense.

Please dont take your car to these asshats. They dont know what the hell they're talking about. Did they ask you about replacing the winter air in your tires with summer air? :lol: Make sure the place that works on your wheels drops the TPMS into the wheel before they start dismounting the wheel. They can do this by unscrewing the nut on the stem and letting they unit fall in side. If not done this way there is a high probability that the sensor will break when the wheel is spinning around the duck head on the machine.

iam running these same rims with non run flats no problems at all and no extra weights either !

LOL, the "Asshats" were Discount tire here in town. I took it somewhere else and had new rubber mounted on them with new standard valve stems. Balanced fine.

all you have to do is remove the outter nut on the tpms and i bet the tire shop you go to the techs will know how to take them off i do
