Just Rented an A6 2010 1SS from Avis

Hey, I just got back from a trip that I rented a 1SS from Avis. My impressions below:

Pro's:

Very Solid feel.

High Quality construction throughout.

Nice pull when you stomp on it. It didn't feel much faster than my LT1, until you looked down and realized you were flying:burnout:

Paddle Shift was a blast.

The car hooked well.

Con's:

Car tends to lurch when applying the gas from a stop or slow roll in traffic. At first I thought this was because I wasn't used to the car, but it is not smooth at all and no matter how hard I tried it would snap almost every time. Has anyone else had this experience? It almost felt like it was hunting for first gear. I blamed the cylinder deactivation, but it was a rental, so maybe first gear was torched. Although it only had 800 miles on it.

People tend to run you off the road...gotta love those hyped up LA Camaro fanatics :freakout:

When you push the accellerator on a car with an LS3 it lurches forward. Go figure.
Yes that is normal for a car with 400+ HP. My guess is with a little more time you would get used to it and smooth things out. Also throttle by wire systems don't have the same delay as a cable system.

LS3 is for the manual not the auto(still 400 ponies), the OP did not say lurch forward, just lurch which is the problem with "throttle by wire" systems as well as Stabilltrack and fuel management.

" the problem with "throttle by wire" systems as well as Stabilltrack and fuel management."

I was hoping that was not the case, they really need to get that worked out, that would drive me bonkers.

"How much did it cost to rent a SS?"

With taxes and everything around $140/day. Well worth it given how long I have been waiting to drive one.

"What kind of RPM swings are we taking from gear-to-gear at WOT?"

I was too busy trying to keep my eyes pealed for pedestrians, traffic, and Eric Estrada:lol: to note the exact RPM swing, but I can tell you it was large and lazy. The only thing I can compare it to is my 4L60E and that has a shift kit in it, so it's not really a good comparo.

C'mon man...

I just noticed that you are in Louisville, did you rent it at the Avis airport location? I tried to do an online reservation a few weeks ago and it showed the Camaro not available?

i dont think cylinder deactivation would make it feel "snappy". the car was just telling you that she wanted to GO! and not to baby her any more!

Chill dude. The LS3 and L99 use the same throttle system which was my point. He said that he had difficulties getting the car to not lurch forward when accelerating (my interpretation) I have experienced this problem due to the throttle by wire systems myself. In fact most recently with a Infiniti G37. Took half a day of driving to get used to it.
