15" IROC Z rims + slicks?

I have had my Hoosier QTPs for 2 years now of racing and one is flat. I bet I could get a few more runs out of it if I get it re-seated, but what do you guys think about doing this with such small rims? I am pretty sure it is an 8" wide rim, and the tires I have been using are a 11.5" wide Hoosier QTP. Is this really bad for the tire? Dangerous?

I just dont want to spend $800+ to get my new slicks/rims if I do not have to. It is a high price to do just as good as I was with the current setup.

Thanks in advance,

Those exact tires are what I used for the last two years. I just realized yesterday I had a nail in one of my slicks, so I went with the 27x15x11.5s. We will see how they work tomorrow! Hoping for sub 1.7 60's. Best to date is a 1.68 60'.

The fit is ok on the rim, but the backspacing looks HORRIBLE. If the rims were not free I would definitely never have bought them.

Have you considered installing tubes? They are expensive, and will change the stiffness of the tire a bit, though.

No I havent. I like the way the QTPs feel these days, nice and soft. I will get back to this subject as soon as I figure out why my car could barely turn the tires last time at the track. always something new.

A 11.5" DOT racing slick fits fine on 8" rim. Treadwidth is usually 8.7-9.8"

A true 11.5" slick DOES NOT fit an 8" rim fine. :) Treadwidth is an actual 11.5"

Just my experience. Check for tire/fender clearance.
