JasonD 06-15-2009, 05:35 PM I don't think I saw this posted yet, but I'll bet some will find interest in it.

thats good info on the gauge cluster for people who want to get a 1SS or 1LT
Bob Cosby 06-15-2009, 06:45 PM Yup, the gauge cluster from the dealer deal is pretty neat.
Related....question...on the M6 car, is one of the gauges still the tranny temp gauge? That one makes perfect sense and is very useable with an automatic, but a bit useless with the manual.

Yes it is. And something I noticed on the M6's is they have a trans fluid pump built in either the belhouseing or front of trans (I can't remember), so it runs the fluid through a cooler in the front.
Bob Cosby 06-15-2009, 06:59 PM The M6 has a pump and a tranny cooler???????????
Wow. Why? Transmission fluid in a manual is not under pressure like it is in an automatic.
99SilverSS 06-15-2009, 07:05 PM Interesting info. I didn't know about the second door striker and why. Remote start and console guages are good info to know for those going that way aftermarket.
graham 06-15-2009, 09:41 PM Super cool 411!
426HPSS 06-16-2009, 08:56 AM couple of big misses though that I did not know till I got #6046 home....
a/No hood dome light for night time....checking oil or looking under hood on a dark night...
b/no trunk pull down area to put your hand and pull down. this is super annoying. trunk is stiff and you have to touch the spoiler or trunk lid every time to pull down the trunk.
But...whose complaining...I have a new 2SS in the garage !!
Captain Jeff Z28 06-16-2009, 03:44 PM you'll need to unlock the door manually, crawl in the back seat, flip down the seat back, reach into the trunk, and pull the emergency trunk release ripcord. You know, the glow-in-the-dark thing your kid gets to use when he misbehaves and you gotta stuff him in the trunk.
That was good!
Jeff
Fbodfather 06-16-2009, 04:27 PM There is a transmission cooler -- fitted as standard to all Automatic vehicles -- both V6 & V8 (....it is a part of the radiator assembly...).
The V6 Manual has no transmission cooler....
The V8 Manual has a transmission cooler included in the radiator -- and thus is fully track capable for a full tank of fuel.

about the pulling up part....
I noticed that if you grab the trunk just above the tail lamp... not the spoiler... but right there where the trunk panel starts just above the tail lamp... you leave no marks...
not i gotta figure out how to close the trunk without leaving marks....

Interesting. Never heard of problems with tranny fluid temps in manual transmission cars, but then, I don't open track, so that's probably why.
Tks for the info.

JakeRobb 06-16-2009, 05:25 PM There were a handful of things I didn't know in that article. Neat.
Specifically, those were:
1. extra door striker
2. single hood strut
3. windshield-mounted remote receiver for extended range (does it only work for the remote start, or does it also work for lock/unlock?)
4. no manual exterior trunk lock
5. GMPD badge under the hood

Pressure is not the only way to create heat. :)
Bob Cosby 06-16-2009, 07:04 PM Obviously not - but the kind of pressure that an automatic will run creates WAY more heat than the fluid just sloshing around with the gears.

Fair enough; nonetheless, the TR6060 clearly generates enough heat through a long session of racing to warrant the cooler. :)
Bob Cosby 06-16-2009, 08:23 PM Perhaps. I am certainly no expert on the subject, so I will default to those that are.
426HPSS 06-17-2009, 08:27 AM do you all think they will keep the GMPD badge under hood on later build camaro's ?? has that division not been de-comissioned??
ChrisFrez 06-17-2009, 09:06 AM Shift Pattern Warning!
Can't wait to get to the dealership and test drive a manual six-speed? Heed this warning: Do not test drive a manual trans V-6 Camaro after test driving a manual trans Camaro SS. We almost wrecked $60,000 worth of Camaros, so we're not joking. Both V-6 and V-8 Camaros have six-speed manual transmissions. Reverse gear on the V-8 is in the normal place--to the right and up. On the V-6 (which sports an Aisin-built gearbox instead of the Tremec), Reverse is to the left, and up--that's exactly where First is on the SS. Driving the V-6 after a long day behind the wheel of an SS, we almost front-ended the Camaro behind us--twice--on a steep uphill after waiting for a green light. Doh! Can we suggest a reverse lock-out ring for future V-6 models?
Look hard. The manual shift patterns are very similar between V-6 and V-8 Camaros, but with one really minor--and potentially very dangerous--difference. Never was there a better argument for a reverse lock-out on the V-6
This is the one that got me almost immediately when we did our test drives of the V6 and V8 car back in February. I was in the V6 car first, put it in first, and it immediately starting backing up.
2010_5thgen 06-17-2009, 09:28 AM so if reverse is in the place of 1st gear on the v8, 1st is down to the left,2nd up,3rd down,4th up, 5th down, 6th up?

No.
V8:
1 2 3 R
2 4 6
V6:
R 1 2 3
X 2 4 6
(x is just a placeholder to get things to line up; there's nothing there)
Ed 2001 SS 06-17-2009, 10:43 AM So the V8 pattern is as God and Borg Warner intended, and the V6 pattern is an abomination of some sort...
2010_5thgen 06-17-2009, 11:24 AM thats not that bad. im sure it would be really odd to get used to after hopping out of a v8.porsche has the same shift pattern. you have to really jam it over to get it into reverse on a porsche. i dont think it would be that easy to slide it into rev. without noticing, is it?
JakeRobb 06-17-2009, 01:47 PM i dont think it would be that easy to slide it into rev. without noticing, is it?
I think the problem is doing it from a stop (when none of the lockouts would be engaged). R and 1 are really close to each other on the V6, and you do the same move (left and up) to get there.
Especially if you're used to not worrying about it (as in the V8), it could be pretty frustrating (and even dangerous) to hit R when you meant 1.
2010_5thgen 06-17-2009, 02:44 PM yeah, that would be a bad day if you put it in R instead of 1 at a light and hit the guy behind you.
OutsiderIROC-Z 06-18-2009, 08:24 AM So the V8 pattern is as God and Borg Warner intended, and the V6 pattern is an abomination of some sort...
