The new company will focus on smaller vehicles, areas in which Chrysler was weak.

"Work is already under way on developing new environmentally friendly, fuel-efficient, high-quality vehicles that we intend to become Chrysler's hallmark going forward," the new company said in a statement.

The Italian automaker won't put any money into the deal but will give Chrysler billions worth of small car and engine technology.
I am very excited for chryslers future! It sounds like they will be the front runner of US built fuel efficient cars. I'll buy one after my focus dies if they are as good as I think they could be.

Dodge Hornet was to actually be built in Japan on the Nissan Versa architecture as part of the deal that had Chrysler doing the next large Nissan pickup on the Dodge Ram structure in the Ram's plant in Mexico.

Nissan cancelled the the Ram based Titan, and last I heard, the Hornet was on ice when Chrysler went into cash conserving mode last year. The production preview Hornet would have been on display during the next auto show season.
