who knows about tire sizes?

what is the largest diameter and tallest tire with either a 17 or 18 size wheel that can fit up front?

i know a 275/40/17x9.5 firehawk wheel works...what else will work in a 17 or 18?

Tried talking to Tire Rack yet? They are about the cheapest and have the largest variety I know of.

car craft did a 92 z28 put 17 x 9.5 with 5.5" backspacing all the way around with 275/40-17 tires. had to grind a litttle off the outer tie rods to clear.

in 18" you could get 18 x 9.5 with 5.5" backspacing and 275/35-18

both are 25.7" tall and yes the firehawk wheels fit with the same 275/40-17 tire but they had 5.25" backspacing. so no grinding on the tie rod.

backspacing....how do you calculate that off of a rim?

i take it a 275/40 would be way to close then?

to measure backspacing on a rim it is from the mounting flange to the lip of the wheel from the backside. teh 275-40-17 came on the 92 firehawk. it fits but no bigger on hte front. some people put the 315/35-17 on the rear with 17 x 11 rims g oto www.skulte.com and you can see some cars with these sizes on them.

the ones posted are the ones that will work on the car. a 275/40-18 are 26.7" tall which just happens to come on the current corvettes for the rear. and will not work on the front of the car. but the rear yes. i almost bought a set of ZO6 wheels and tires. for my car.

245/50-16 25.7" tall
275/40-17 25.7" tall
275/35-18 25.6" tall

these sizes you can run all the way around. these are the maximum width and height. the 275/40-18 you asked about you cannot run on the front. too tall.

what about the rear...running a 295 tire? in both 17 and 18?
