Thoughts on G8 purchase?

So I have been considering buying a G8. One of my concerns is replacement parts. The G8 and the 5th gen are both based on the zeta platform, so would there be a decent amount of parts that could be taken and used on a G8? I'm hoping someone can enlighten me a bit.

I don't know how much is in common between Camaro and G8 - yeah same general platform, but I doubt they share much.

As far as worrying about parts, warranty, etc. if you bought a G8, I wouldn't worry.

Fine car. I love 'em. If I didn't want a Camaro so badly, I would buy a G8.

I want one so bad. There's a white GXP that lives across the street that taunts me everyday.

I would imagine most of the mechanical bits won't be a problem, especially since the powertrain is North American. Parts that unique to the VE platform, like glass or trim pieces, should be available but with perhaps a wait to get them shipped. Years down the road it might be tough to find, say, a front facia or other pieces strictly unique to the G8, but overall I wouldn't worry about it.

After watching Motorweek the other day and the test they did on the new G8 Firehawk I wouldn't mind one. The bitch was doing 0-60 in 4 flat and the 1/4 mile in 12 flat. That thing scooted! All they really did to the engine was drop a Maggie on it performance wise. Everything else is the usual SLP bs of suspension and funky hood. 4 doors, 2 tons and 12 flat in the quarter! G8 GT can be had for around $28k then $6k for the maggie and your outrunning GT500's!

I don't really like white cars, but damn... white G8s are sex.

Don't they have to keep replacement parts for 10 years or will that go away with the bankruptcy deal, too?

I wouldn't worry about replacement parts. A lot is shared with other GM vehicles like the Camaro and the car is sold all over the world in large quantities.

It might be one of the better "investments" if it remains unmolested for 20-30 years...

It will be my first new car, so I will no doubt take good care of it, don't know if it will be completely "unmolested" however

The G8 GT is an awesome performance sedan value right now.

Parts might not be the big issue some think they will. I recently noticed G8 bumper covers on ebay for what I thought was an incredibly low price ($150-175 or some such). I got to thinking - why would they be going for cheap? It could be - production has been cut off somewhat early on the cars... maybe a certain amount of parts have already been produced and distributed, based on the original production expectations... which might mean there will be plenty for quite some time to come. I bought a V6 powered G8 last month - I absolutely love the car!! Decent power, great handling, and great looks!! The saddening thing is that most people look at the car and say "wow, what a nice car!! What is it?" and then the look of dismay when you tell them its a Pontiac....its like they can't see past the badge. Still so much negative perception around about GM..........really unfortunate......

Damn nice car....I don't regret buying this thing for a second!!
