Solstice, Sky, and GT dead next month

GM is closing the Wilmington, DE plant where the Solstice, Sky, and Opel GT are built by the end of next month (7/2009). Unbelievable.
Apparently, there will only have been approximately 1,000 Solstice coupes produced by the closing date. So less than 1,000 coupes produced ever. Talk about a rare bird. That car will be worth some money in 30 years.

GXP convertibles? I'd make that investment.

I think I saw on another site it was a 50/50 to 60/40 mix.

There's a red Solstice coupe on the lot up at a stand-alone Pontiac dealer in my area... I thought about it as a potential collectable in the future... Will it be one of those things I'll kick myself for not buying? Maybe.

The Sky is gorgeous. I stood next to one at the dealership and was stunned by how small, sexy, and expensive it looked. I haven't seen the solstice in person. How were both models selling compared to the miata?? Hopefully we'll see something similar down the line.

Sad news. Always figured we would be keeping our GXP and never sell. Now it looks like we will certainly be holding on to it for as long as we both survive this world. Coupes will be very, very rare.

This has crossed my mind, too. But I'd buy any spares I could of parts that are unique to the coupe. Those could be tough to find over time.

A while back the two combined were outselling Miata. The problem isn't sales - the cars are just too expensive to build.

Convertibles are relatively plentiful. It's the hardtop that's rare, because it was new this year.

My 2006 Mysterious Solstice will remain in my garage. This car is going absolutely nowhere.

I've yet to find a Solstice optioned out just like mine. It's the only black Solstice without fog lamps and with 0 power options. The only option I got was A/C!

The flip side? I better get to the dealership to buy the bulbs for the turn lamps where the fog lamps would be. I played hell a year ago finding bulbs that worked. Because there are so few ordered without the fog lamp nobody knows what bulb to use.
