I just bought my son a 97 camaro. it does not fire right off, takes a couple seconds to start. Any suggestions. it does have new plug wires. I'm gonna do a LT1 swap this winter but want to get this motor running good for now. Also it is a one wheel wonder, it is a A4 3800, what gears might it have? there is no data sheet in glove box. any help would be great. Curt

As far as the starting problem: Have you checked the fuel pressure? My Z28 would do the same thing and it was a faulty FP.
Gears: Open the drivers side door and check the RPO codes there. Look for a code that say GU(-). Mine is a GU5 (3.23). GU4 is a 2.73 gear. GU5 is a 3.42 gear.

No.
GU2 = 2.73
GU4 = 3.08
GU5 = 3.23
GU6 = 3.42
Check the fuel pressure as noted above. If it falls off too rapidly when the pump shuts down, it can cause hard starting. Could do that as a result of leaking injectors, faulty fuel pressure regulator or faulty check valve built into the fuel pump. Does it start easier if you put the throttle peddle on the floor and hold it there before you crank it? That would indicate a lekay injector or two.
Have you scanned it for codes?

fuel pressure is high, or at least for a LT1. about 44lbs. that seems high. but i dont know about the 3800. fuel pressure stays up after the car is shut off, bleeds down in about 15 mins. any suggestions?

it does start better when the pettle is pushed to the floor. but fuel pressure does not drop off real fast. But how fast is to fast. and fuel pressure is quite abit above my lt1. the 3800 is at or around 42 44 lbs. thanks again, Curt
