Richard Cabeza 01-13-2003, 03:11 PM I haven't seen many on the road at all yet
chevy looks decent IMO-

GMC-
http://www.gmc.com/gmcjsp/savana/index.jsp?brand=safari&pageName=index
the GMC is hidious :barf: well it's not as a** ugly as those stupid euro Sprinter van things that FedEx uses now. Those things look like a turd on wheels.
305fan 01-13-2003, 03:33 PM As ususal, the chevy is the better looking oif the two.
What I don't get is, why are there tow different versions of the same vehilve, one for Chevy one for GMC>
These things have to be the most alike vehicles that GM sells in 2 divisions.
I say get rid of GMC---make'em all Chevys
I have seen them both on the road and they are both identical. The chevy just has the bar though the grill. I don't know how one can be called ugly and the other can't.
Why do they keep GMC you ask? Becuase GMC is the second best selling GM nameplate behide Chevy!!!!!!!!!! they should get rid of Pontiac, Buick Saturn, or Caddy before GMC.
305fan 01-13-2003, 06:34 PM Hmm.....get rid of GMC and those customers would just buy Chevy-----I see lots of duplication
in having GMC----guess it gives Pontaic?Buick dealers a truck to sell.
Despite what GMC says (professional grade) I can't see GMC trucks appealing to a different buyer then a Chevy truck. Kinda goes aginst the rules of when to segment a market.
Saying that--I will say that GMC has tried to distinguish itself NOW more then ever before---and I guess it must work out for them--otherwise they'd be gone too.
Get rid of Pontaic?? That's crazy---the Grand Am is one of the highest volume passenger cars sold by GM---at least the styling is different from it's corporate cousin--the Malibu
whats wrong with more variety???? Should they have not made the Firebird because it over laps with the Camaro? Some people like the GMC styling better. GMC sells over 550,000 trucks a year!!!
90 Z28SS 01-14-2003, 01:43 AM 1 word for the new vans . SCARINESS  That grill and headlight design is horrifying .
The overall side shots look a little more rounded-off than the previous style and reminds me too much of an 80s Astro Van. I like a full size van to be big, square, & boxy and who cares about a slick aero look? We're talking a heavy-azz van. The general overall look is good, and I don't see where all the GMC criticism is coming from!? That GMC van has a really good utility-looking front end. Totally classic GMC look. Looks good to me. Like it's saying it's ready to take serious abuse and come out stronger for it. Likely to be huge with phone companies and heating-A/C companies and stuff like that. Chevy has the milder more approachable front look which families and churches will like.

Darth Xed 01-14-2003, 08:36 AM I think they look fine.... they're vans.
Richard Cabeza 01-14-2003, 02:36 PM I don't care what anyone thinks, these are the absolute ugliest vans in the world ever-

These are the vans that's replacing Dodge's Full Size vans.
Needless to say, I think Dodge should run their current vans for another 35 years instead of resorting to this.

I hope Dodge sells 0 of them and get nothing but negative comments on them. I puke everytime I see a FedEx truck, now I'll puke everytime I see a Dodge van or a Verizon truck too, since they've been using Dodge vans around here forever.

Exactly.
I doubt my company is looking for hip styling on the vans for our vanpool.
I agree, I think van buyers are more concerned about price, warrenty, powertrain, and size than they are looks.

The current Dodge van was the closest thing to a wheeled donkey I've ever seen. They weren't just worse than the current full-sized vans from Ford, they were even poor in comparison to a 20 year old Chevy.
These vehicles wandered on the highway, had horrible fuel economy, cruddy drivetrains, and poor directional stability. They wandered on the highway even when new. The ultra grabby, lock-up prone brakes take the cake, though. Even rear cargo access was terrible - something that is of the paramount importance in a cargo van.
I looked at the Sprinter when it arrived at my local Freightliner dealer. Admittedly, these vehicles have crude, bad taste interiors. There again, rainbow colored plaid upholstery is popular in European commercial vehicles. The important thing is that the Sprinter has a modern efficient turbodiesel powerplant and exceptional packaging.
The downside is that the new Sprinter is a bit pricey and is way too high to fit through a standard garage door - even in the short roofed versions. If I was shopping for a full-sized van, I'd still be looking at Chevy first.

That's funny, I own one and I think they have excellent cargo access, are fairly stable (but they are tall cargo vans, so don't expect a lot), have no tendency to wander whatsoever, and have great brakes.
Furthermore they're the easiest cargo van to work on service-wise by far and last forever. I've got a 1982 with over 350,000 miles. You don't need a jack to change the starter, you can change the spark plugs sitting in the front seats, and you can GET TO THE WHOLE ENGINE. This is the direct opposite of annoying Chevy Express and Astro vans, which I also have personal experience with.

Reno Leigh 01-21-2003, 12:47 PM I for one care about how a truck looks. It has my companys name on the side, and it is an indicator of how much taste and sense I have as a truck buyer, and of my company image as a whole.
No way I would ever been seen riding in a 2003 Chevy or GMC G van, much less putting my name on the side of one. BTW, they looked fine until the 2003 facelift. Now looks like a Botox injection gone horribly wrong. Wayne Cherry should be fired, along with whomever signed off on that terrible nasty change.
Those Freightliners are ugly too. All Freightliners are, always have been, so I have no high expectations of them.

You really need to stop reading my mind. Someday I have to think we'll disagree about something. :)
At any rate, perhaps it's the slightly Avalanche-styled headlights....get used to 'em though. They are now officially on all Chevy trucks save the S-10 which is gone soon anyway....

Chuck! 01-21-2003, 04:06 PM Dodge is replacing their current Ram van with that thingy? We have one at work I deliver in, a 2001 Ram, and its ... well a big white van, but it looks a hell of a lot better than that thing.
