I was reading in GMHTP where Reuss was talking about this, and the idea that you can then buy a supercharger from GMPP and get 220hp out of it.
When is this supposed to happen???
The only Cavaliers I see available are 140hp models.
I'm going to be in the market for a commuter car in the next year (the brave 1988 Aries is now on its last legs...), and unless that Cavalier becomes available, I'll buy a truck.
Any ideas?

I don't think any date has been stated yet for the souped up Cavalier, but I'd venture a guess that it'd be in with the 2004 model year.
I thought there was going to be a VVT version of the Ecotec.

I think he meant there is not a factory installed supercharger---
it's from GMPP---the dealer can put it on--you get warranty and financing.
The only supercharger I know of is for the 2.4L Twin cam---which was taken out of production last year.
Maybe they are working on one for the Eco-tec but I DOUBT IT YOU'LL SEE ANYTHING BEFORE THE NEXT GEN cAV---WHeNEVER THAT IS

Yeah, it's the Yamaha motor that's in the Pontiac Vibe, check out the Vibe sight. On the Vibe's sight they have a picture of the supercharger, too bad you can't get it installed on the 180 horse motor (stupid idea). I think it's teh same motor that's in the Toyota Matrix and the sporty Celica.

The Ion will have a 220hp S/C Ecotec, I think next year. The current Cavalier may get it too.
Expect automatic only trans.

Typical GM stupidity. If they want to have fun they SURE AS HELL WANT A SLUSHBOX.
Performance may be alive at GM, but it is braindead.
So we get a 220HP automatic only 'sport compact' on a 20 year old platform?

Perhaps... but the Delta platform Cavalier debuts for 2005 (assuming it is still on schedule, which I believe it is )... so, if it does happen, it's only a 1-year thing.

Its a Toyota engine that was jointly developed with Yamaha. Interesting engine. Spins to 8,200 RPM. My differential is 4.529:1 and first gear is 3.166:o It has variable valve timing and lift. It actually switches cams at 6,000 RPM, its like someone flips a light switch.
Its fun, but I wish it wasn't so peaky...
