Just make sure that the battery you use doesn't vent gas when it is being charged. Otherwise you'll need to have a way for the gas to be vented out of the car. This is one case where I CAN recommend an Optima battery. They use a differenrt construction from your normal automotive battery and don't discharge any gas.

Good move.
I would also add that you should try to secure the battery. What I would do is make a carpeted board to go in the bottom of the spare tire area and make some brackets to bolt it to the antenna brace. Then you can set the battery on top and fasten it to the board. This would prevent the battery from rolling all around if you take a corner hard. JMO.:D Good luck:D

If you plan on doing any drag racing you will need an external shut off with a rod that goes to the outside of the car. It needs to be a "push to off" type of setup. Search in either the drag racing forum or LT-1 Tech this has been discussed recently.

why would I need one? Is that a track safety requirement?

Yes, it is a NHRA & IHRA rule along with having the battery in a sealed box that is vented to the outside because our cars don't have a rear firewall.

Technically I don't know if the Optima batteries are SFI approved where they wouldn't have to be put in the sealed box. I tried contacting Optima directly but never heard from them, but if you don't do a lot of drag racing or if your track isn't that strict then you should be okay.
