Geny Y people: do you like the Scion models or the Honda Element?

Supposedly, Toyota and Honda have figured out how the Gen Y (those under 25) brain works and the results are the two Scion models and the Honda Element.

So you Gen Y'ers....what do you think of the looks of the Scions and the Element?

Everyone I know (aged 19-23) thinks they're ridiculous.

I'm 19 and I'd rather drive a riding mower around town than a Scion or an Element.

<--- 24 years old, ugly as hell.

However I suspect this will be the overwhelming opinion of any younger guy who visits this site. If you're into F-bodies, Mustangs and the like you aren't going to be interested in a car like that.

I can see people that don't care about cars at all would like em..

When it all boils down, its just a "spiffy" looking "minivan".

I hope I never see one of these things on the road... I'll probably start laughing uncontrolably, and wreck my car and die.

Unbelievably, someone has out-done the Aztek for worst, blocky, clunky design of all-time! :dead:

Been awhile since i posted last but yeah i agree, those cars are UGLY. i see them as very boxy and very, very cheap rice boxes.

What I find truly funny is that Toyota and Honda have justified the ugliness of the vehicles by saying "our market research has indicated that Gen Y-ers don't care about styling, just functionality."

Well I give that quote a huge . I'm sorry I don't care who you talk to, no one wants to drive something that they themselves perceive as ugly. Bland styling, if the car is everything else you could ask for, that's one thing. It doesn't cost any more to make a car even bland on the outside, so why handicap the thing by making it look like that? You're putting that "market research" thing to the ultimate test. So hard to believe that Aztek owners actually like its styling....

What the hell is generation Y? I thought this was Gen X? How often do we change generations here?

Personally everyone I know who is my age (mid 20's) thinks these cars are hidious. Looks are what catch your eye first, so if something is ugly, how the hell do you expect to draw people into showrooms?

I'm 23

I hate those cars, not only are they weak but they are very ugly, I guess the Japs are going after the ever lucrative Aztek market;)

if these cars catch on (which they won't) maybe GM will bring back Geo.

People my age want sporty looking cars, not these little van things.

Yeah, I remember reading that the Aztek was the result of dozens of clinics and heavy-duty market research of "...young people with active life-styles". (Must've been blind too.)

Thats weird, I'm a '79 myself and everyone older than me always refers to my generation as Gen X. I have a brand new $35k truck too, so I guess I'm an exception

Gen Y is 82-92 (the tech generation). These are the people the grew up with the Internet. I was born in 1978 and am definitely a Gen Xer. My new car is in my sig. :D

By the way...the Scion and Element are fugly. Real Gen Y people might actually think they're cool. Or maybe just some modern hippies or something....not someone who actually has autmotive taste. ;)

Ick, at least Aztek designers know where they can find a job..........

And at least those body cladding makers have found Honda to supplement the loss of Pontiac.......

I'd rather be caught in an Aztek then either of those two things. It's almost funny to see the magazines who bashed Aztek styling try and rationalize why the styling of these two shouldn't be considered too bad

Can I just add that no matter how many more people vote 'Uglier than Aztek, the 100% won't get any higher.;)

I thought it would be near impossible to dethrone Aztek from the modern day "Ugliest vehicle ever"... but it seems others sure are trying hard... and may have succeeded!

I think us 78-82 people are just stuck in the middle, too young for gen X and too old for gen y:rolleyes:

Anyway, the only think i like about the honda is the pillarless doors. One think i found funny, I was reading car & driver's review of the element and they said that honda designed the car for 20-25 yrs males with no jobs. I know some college kids have there parents buy them cars, and it will probably sell, cause it has the nifty H badge on there (like the drones that buy civics and accords without evenlooking at other cars).

I wonder what how the asstek would sell if it had a Honda badge instead of pontiac, i bet you'll see a lot more of them.

Same with Toyotas, they will probably sell just on name alone

The Honda one looks ****ing horrible and boxy; I'd take a more stylish Pontiac Vibe (or even the blander Matrix) over than if I wanted something with cargo room.

So they can drive it to the unemployment office? I guess that would be like Head & Shoulders creating shampoo for the hairless individual.

i remember when i first saw those a long time ago (my mom works for toyota), there is no way they will sell those, i bet more baja's will be sold then the entire scion fleet, which is like 2 cars
