This Sunday, May 3rd --- Corvette Club of America hosts the annual Muscle Car Drag Races at Capitol Raceway in Crofton Maryland. Additionally, Sport Chevrolet from Silver Spring, MD is the club sponsor and will be driving thier first delivered Camaro RS/SS to the race track for display and to make a pass down the 1/4 mile on Sunday afternoon.

This event typically draws muscle cars from all over the region but with the new Camaro on display and running down the track it could prove to be an incredible turn out. The weatherman seems to be working with us, so hopefully we will have a great day.

I think the flat black stripes look good too, and the texture of the finish doesn't seem like it will leave scuffs or marks like some flat finishes do.
The wheels are sweet, but it adds a lot of heft to the price tag.

Sport Chevrolet will be installing the Cat Back system on this car as soon as the system arrives. Whoever gets this particular car will already have a nice modded Camaro. I'm trying to talk them into putting the short tube headers on it that are avaialble.

Thats awesome that they are bringing it out to the track, but let me get this straight, this is a car that is for sale, and that hasn't been sold, and they are going to take it down the track for a pass or two before trying to sell it... Other than that, its a nice looking ride, looks like it has the IO interior as well :D Hope to see some pics from the track.

The Dealership has been known since the 60s to be performance oriented, hence the name, Sport Chevrolet. They are comitted to using this car as the show piece and to get the word out how great this new Camaro really is. The general public still has a poor impression of GM products and it is up to the Dealers and enthusiasts to help get the word out about the "reinvention" of GM. Ok now I'm sounding like a commercial.

they actually only weight about 10lbs more than the stock 20's. i wouldnt see it effecting the performance too much. the tires actually weigh less than the stock 20" tires too. wheels weigh in at 31 for the front - apc and 35 for the rear - apc. the 20" weigh 30 front apc and 32 rear apc. tires are 29 front for the 21" and 33 rear for 21". 20" front 31 lbs and rear tires are 35lbs. it kind evens out.

yeah their expensive. i paid about the same price for a custom set of 22" for my camaro and they actually weight alot less than the 21" from chevy.

Even so the reduction in sidewall height is not going to make it any friendlier to launch the car.

reduction over what the 16" wheels on a 4th gen or the 20" wheels on the 5th gen? because its not much of a difference from the 20" wheels. a 35 series tire compared to a 40 series tire.

Its all good, i hope they put someone in the drivers seat that knows how to shift, so we can really see what this baby can do :)

I know who will be driving and I think he can handle the shifting, but I'm not sure if he will be obligated by the dealer to "pull out" :D

The car has around 200 miles on it now, so I'm not sure how hard they will run it. It was at 75/80 dragway last Friday night for a quickie, but I don't know any details of the event. I know it was there for display, and a trip down the track but just not sure on specifics.

I will bring a full report back here on Monday with photos for sure.

so is this a customer car or a display model? because no offense, but i would never buy a car that i knw the dealership were drag racing.

I thought 75/80 had been closed down...

To the best of my knowledge this car will be sold. I know the dealership very well and am sure that whoever buys this car will be taken care of. Again, this car will probably not be driven all out.

Stopped in to see it today on my way to work. Very nice but those rims are not my taste at all. The RS rims you guys pulled off it look sweet though. Ill have to post more when I have more time because there were some salesmen I spoke with and it was pretty funny... The Black car was cool too but I couldnt see getting a V6.

I'm sure a high 12 sec slip will encourage a buyer to step forward. Not to mention some extra notoriety for the dealer.

I'm not "you guys". LOL --- I don't work for Sport, although I'd like to!!!
I just hang out there a lot and know a lot of the guys that work there.
They sponsor my club.

I was looking that SS over before work. Its not my style color and definatly not the rims but it really gave me a feel for it. I expected to like it but not as much as I did. While I was looking it over 3 salesmen walked in the showroom from the outside. One salesman said, yeah this is the only thing bringing anyone in. I heard one salesman say that he couldnt fit because he was too tall. Well I am 6'3" and when I got in the car my head was hitting the roof and I was leaning over. Anyone who can work at seat adjustment can fix that. Once the seat dropped down it was perfect though I didnt take the time to adjust the telescopic wheel. I was sitting in the drivers seat and got out when one salesman mentioned theres alot of information online about this car. He asked me how it felt when I closed the door. I asked the saleman what he meant. He goes, "when you were sitting inside did it feel clostrophobic. So I got back inside and closed the door. I looked up at him from the car and said, "slightly as the door curves in at the beltline but its not bad." That definatly isnt anything I would change. I mentioned to him that the seat was adjustable and dropped down and his response was yeah I had no problem sititng in it. He mentioned this thing is 3800 lbs and asked about the gun slit windshield. Honestly the chop top was a legitamate gripe I agree with though I think I could get used to it. I wish the belt line was a little lower not that the roof be higher. In person the production looks LOADS better than the concept to my eye. after that I just watched the 3 salesmen climb in and out of the car. One climbed into the back seat while another said yeah thats the back seat if you can call it that. Maybe for your clubs or something. These had to be the worst Chevy salesmen Ive ever met. It was like watching the three stooges but at the same time I kinda admired their cander. So finally I asked one if they could pop the trunk so I could see in. He looked at me and said oh I dont know I dont work here. Huh? He then pointed to his shirt and said I work for Mercedees and yelled to his buddy to pop the trunk. LOL!! I couldnt make up with a better Camaro comercial idea if I tried.

Sadly the Drag Races at Capitol Raceway have been canceled due to weather and we won't get to see the Camaro run down the track this weekend!!!

This really sucks, but we are currently considering Father's Day weekend for a rain date and that is not too far off in the future.

Stay tuned.

Anyone know what the track surface is like there? I ran there about two years ago and it was very slick. After a couple attempts and spinning consistently through 3 gears I stopped running for the night. They put new asphalt down recently. MIR had a much better surface, would rather see the camaro run there. At MIR, I felt like I was glued to the ground coming up to the light.

Hopefully traction isn't an issue in the time slip.

:D There is a reason for that
