Pedders was at Milford today, and can answer YOUR wheel/tire/suspension questions!

...well some of them, anyway! Some can't be answered due to a non-disclosure agreement. :)

If you didn't listen to Podcast #178 (http://www.camaroz28.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=59) where we had Pete from Pedders in the studio, you need to! It was one of our best shows yet and there was a lot of insightful information contained in it.

Pete just called me and told me that he was at the Milford proving grounds today doing "a few things" and said that he wants to try to answer some questions regarding 2010 Camaro suspension, wheels, and tires on our next episode of the CamaroZ28.Com Podcast!

Post your question by replying here in this thread for by midnight, May 2. We'll pick some of the best ones (or at least the ones we know he can comment on) and throw them at Pete and hopefully, he can help get you some answers on the next show release!

A few hints...

Please be as brief and to the point as possible. Too lengthy or complicated of a question and we can't use it
One question per person only
No e-mailed questions, no call-in questions, they need to be posted in this thread (yes, we know this is out of the ordinary for our show, but this is how we need to do it to keep track of them)
Check and see if the question was already posted in this thread and please don't duplicate it

Sorry, but we need to do this for the sake of time constraints on the show or the next episode will be an hour long. :)

So fire away!

This will be a great podcast with a lot of answers for everyone.

I have my own questions, but most of them are about when i will have all of the parts to do a complete kit on a Camaro!

How do the Pedders components affect the handling and ride of the car as compared to stock. Don't just say "it's better" -- tell me how and why. Not that Pete will be short of words:)

They are better because they are Pedders Red ;)

I'll be happy to answer as many of your questions as possible on the podcast. Until then, here is a video link you may find interesting showing the World's Best Handling ZETA Platform Vehicles.

Track video will go up next week.

Me too, 315's will look awesome on this beast.yea but im justing thinking here. and it may seem the biggest tire we will se for a while on this car will be a 305/25-30/20 due to rim size

I have a few questions. I'm planning on have the engine put out 600+hp at the crank, so my questions are with that amount of power output in mind.

1. What's your recommended tire size? What about having smaller tires in front/larger in the rear?

2. If larger brakes/tires are installed, will that drastically change how your suspension components react from your original design.

3. If a supercharger kit is installed and changes the weight balance of the car, how much will the handling be affected?

4. How hard will this be for the average person to install?

5. When changing the ride height, do you need to have the car on 4 jackstands to keep the car level, or can you just raise one side of the car at a time?

my biggest question is how wide of a tire/wheel will this car take in front and rear.?

I was thinking at the summit they said the widest wheel that would fit was 9" or 9.5" and that it didn't need to be any wider.

That received a little bit of grumbling

I was with Pete at the Proving Grounds. We both saw a lot that we cannot chat about. I will not take away from any of Pete's thunder. But it was a great day to say the least. The guys there were fantastic to work with. They also like red!!

We were invited there to fix some issues with the rear suspension due to some poorly designed aftermarket suspension coils. Ours fixed the issues they had.

In case you folks didn't tune into the Podcast this week, we had to delay the call-in with Pete as he was working on some things that I don't know if he is supposed to talk about.

However, he should be with us in our next Podcast. In fact...our next show may be a doozie and we might have to split it into two parts, and you won't want to miss either one.

Until then, keep your questions coming for Pete if you haven't already posted yours in this thread!

Okay! As promised, we got Pete on the phone the last time we were in the studio for the recently released CamaroZ28.Com Podcast 192.5 (http://www.camaroz28.com/forums/showthread.php?t=687085) (it was so big with John Fitzpatrick in the studio the same day (http://www.camaroz28.com/forums/showthread.php?t=686634), that we had to split the episode up into two parts).

If you didn't listen to it, you may want to since Pete gave some GOOD information on the questions that everyone asked in this thread that you all have been wanting to know. For example...did Pete really say TWELVE INCHES wide?

Pete was suppose to be back at Milford yestrday, but GM changed the schedule to I think Thursday or Friday. The Camaros are scheduled for shipment at the end of the week for some shows. So just to give everyone a heads up.

If there are some serious questions that you would like Pete to ask, forward them to me and will give them to Pete

thanks

Now that the Camaro BLACK is at the ideal ride height -- virtually identical to my four door corner weighted Camaro / G8 -- we are thinking 20" wheels would work just as well with with wider selection of performance tires. It looks really Nasty. Camaro BLACK is headed to Hendricks for the Coke 600 this weekend. With all the courtesies GM has extended Pedders, the one they will not bend on are cameras in secure areas. If anyone is going to the Coke 600 with a digital can you please send or post pictures?

pete i got a question for you. i ordered the xa kit. i have custom wheels made. 22" all the way around. i think they are a 10" in the rear and 9" front. the tires im running on it are goign to be a 295/25/22 rear and a 265/30/22 front. what is the lowest ill be able to go with this setup and not rub? i would like to get it so the top of the tire is barely under the fender. is that possible?

I think I can help you on this. Our coil overs will be able to be adjusted low enough so the Camaro is not really driveable!. So taking 2 inches off should be nothing.

Here is some data in terms of tire diameters to consder

FACTORY 21'S
WIDTH ASPECT WHEEL DIAM SIDEWALL WIDTH TIRE DIAMETER
245 40 21 7.72 28.72
275 35 21 7.58 28.58

YOUR PROPOSED SIZES
WIDTH ASPECT WHEEL DIAM SIDEWALL WIDTH TIRE DIAMETER
265 30 22 6.26 28.26
295 25 22 5.81 27.81

The biggest observation that I see here is the variations in diameter changes. The OE is only .14 inches. Your variation is .45 inches. With this significant change in diameter I am not sure if it will not take a change in the pcm programming for tire diameter variations. I do not have enough experience with this. but there will be a 15 to 20 revs per mile difference between the 2 sets.

Now for the heights you will be able to get it pretty low but again the biggest variable here will be wheel offsets. you will most likely need a 42-45 or so minimum offset, maybe more to clear. but this is again estimates because I have not done these checks yet.

hope this helps

the wheels are already made, so lets hope they got it right.
im not too concerned about the spedometer being off and the difference in that.

My concern is not the speedometer, is the the traction control and ABS

how will larger wheels affect the abs and traction control? there are many cars out there that have changed to larger wheels and i havent heard of any problems with abs or traction control. i had much bigger wheels on my old suv and the abs was still fine. granted the braking is affected because of the weight difference.

is the camaro affected by the 21" wheels?

when wheels and tires are the same size front and rear, then no big deal. But when it is set up as a split configuration the relationship of the tire front to rear has changed. The split configured 21s have a difference of .14 inches. the tires the poster will be putting on are .45 inches, about 3 times more. Now we do not know what the pcm will allow in variations. it might be just fine, or not.
