I hadn't seen too many good shots of the IBM color, that looks great. I'm a little torn between that and CGM for mine, or maybe just plain 'ole victory red.

Does that have any purple tint to it in person? I love a rich blue color but won't want this if it has any shades of purple coming through... Guess I just need to see that color in person.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the positive feedback. Ray- It does have a slight purple tint to it in certain light (or should I say nonlight because I noticed it when it was in the garage). My best advice is do what I did and go to your local Chevy dealer in person. I believe it is the HHR, Impala, and Avalanche that you can find IBM on. I was able to find CGM, IBM, and IOM along with the red jewel tint coat just to check out how they all look in person.

Primus- I was torn between stripes and decided to just keep it clean and simple for now. Partly to try and save whatever money I could and also because I can always add them later...

Jason- Thanks! And I am honored to be on the front page of the largest Camaro site online

JakeRobb- How's tomorrow? Say, 9 o'clock?

99Silver- I wish it was a real graduation gift instead of coming out of my pocket. I guess its a grad gift to myself!

Opinions vary, but many engine builders will tell you that a proper break-in means running it hard when it's new. :)

Opinions vary, but many engine builders will tell you that a proper break-in means running it hard when it's new. :) thats what they say about motorcycles. they say on the way home, run it hard and then when you get there, change the oil. any loose metal shavings or debry will come out in the oil.

I've built alot of motors in my time new or old you wanna let the rings and brearings break in nice and easy. For a seasoned newly honed block I say a thousand for a new unseasoned block between 1500 to 2000 miles. Last thing you want is to spin those bearings. New blocks will warp and twist into thier final shape from heat. Therefore please be kind!

PorcaroZ28
04-28-2009, 05:21 PM
dacook- I guess we pulled the switcharoo. My 02 was sebring silver metallic

I haven't roasted the tires yet but the salesmen were doing their best to persuade me to when I left the dealership.

The "optional"" floor mats are a pretty close color match. The other two rags I had were maroon and light green so I went with the blue. Thanks to Kevin K. for the idea to keep my floor clean!

Two things. 1) Apostrophes show ownership and since this is the second Camaro I have owned it is appropriate :D 2) I think you are forgetting the state of mind you would be in if you were about to graduate from college, had a job lined up, and it was 70 degrees outside. Let's just say I took a break and came inside to post pics for you guys  So let's not nitpick the grammar

a couple heat cycles are a good idea, but new blocks certainly will not warp and twist into their final shape

tolerances are much better these days, the main thing you are trying to accomplish during break in is to get a good seal between the bore and the rings. This is done by applying fairly decent positive and negative load to the rings, and the way you do that is with your right foot and engine braking

im not saying your supposed to go out and do burnouts and run the piss out of it but little spirited acceleration and running it through the rev range will reward you with many strong miles down the road

How long have you been building engines? I've been doing it for 15 years and reguardless of the theory aluminum and cast blocks do stretch and warp while it usually at mico tolerances this is one of the reasons you don't mess or mix main bearing caps during a rebuild and the best way to break in a motor any experienced builder will tell you is an easy run for a while. While aluminum blocks do it less so then cast because aluminum dissapates heat better and cools faster to be safe I stick by the age old rule for break in periods. When I build them I put them on my bench dyno and let then run easy for an hour. I have alot of customers that wouldn't have it any other way especially my drag and circle track customers. This way it does some break in for them the same as most dealerships run a new car before you get it to break in and check for problems before handing it off and seeing it come back. For more info on beaking look at ower manuals or see your lock chevy service department they will tell you the same.

whats your major? 'grats on the new ride man

Thanks guys. I majored in Supply Chain Management and Entrepreneurship & Emerging Enterprises (EEE). Although currently I'm not following either of those paths, I'm heading into sales. When I was entering college I was interested in sales (I like talking) and talked to some professional salespeople and they told me not to waste 4 years of my life studying marketing like most people that want to go into sales. You can either sell or you can't so find something you're interested in and study that. Then go into sales.

Thanks for the pic Kev

I actually haven't gone over the car with a fine tooth comb yet. I only had the car for 8 hours before I had to come back to school. Did you opt for the Midnight silver wheels with your RS package? On Chevy.com they look almost black, in person they look much better. Your wheels appear to be the standard SS wheels. On they're website it also adds like $400.00 to the price if you choose to go back to standard wheels since the midnight finish is standard with the RS. Just wondering if that is really the case? If so that seems ridiculous. Oh, and congrats on the car it is beautiful! Also on the graduation... I plan on buying 2011 when I graduate in 2 years!:D

Those are the optional polished wheels an additional 460 bucks but well worth it if you like polished aluminum.

Lets start with these motors as ALL production car/truck motors today are not virgin motors. The use of abrasive heavy detergent oil and the need to do the 1500 mile first oil change are gone. The rings are,"pre seated" that is why they now tell you there is no need to perform the,"break in" oil change. The reason they lightly caution you how to drive,is so you don't go out and drive like an idiot and break something. This pertains to aluminum and cast iron blocks. All the,"stretching and warping" are expected in ALL engines. That is why tolerances are designed in. If we were talking about an engine you built at home in your shop, your break in practice would be correct. In these production cars, not needed.
