speeding2fast2c 04-27-2009, 10:58 AM I don't know about any of you, but I can't wait to see this car out there racing on the speedways! I think it would be absolutly awesome, being a very big third gen Camaro fan, to see them make a 2010 IROC Camaro, and also actually use them now for the International Race Of Champions series! I think it would be a great thing for GM to consider to help out their future!
I think if "Rampant" took the picture he has of the Saleen Camaro he did and combine it with the "#6" Camaro from Sema, that would be pretty much how I would picture an IROC Camaro.
Let me know what all of you think, and maybe if there is enough positive response, you never know....that's how thing now a days work!
Camarolina 04-27-2009, 12:51 PM I don't think IROC is around anymore. IROC got to lame, no passing, and couldn't find sponsorship.
Wasn't the IROC Camaro a version of the Z-28, the model there not building this year?
PLaSMaN 04-27-2009, 01:43 PM Indeed it was a Z-28 Iroc-Z, with lowered (and possibly stiffer) suspension and 245/50/16 all around, 0.92G on the skidpad.
speeding2fast2c 04-27-2009, 02:55 PM The IROC racing series was around til atleast two years ago. And what are you talking about, they were allowed to pass! I thought it was still going.
97QuasarBlue3.8 04-27-2009, 03:08 PM I think the IROC name really lives and belongs with the 3rd generation cars. Regardless of what the racing series was or currently is, an "IROC Camaro" has a very pointed stereotype associated with it. I see Irocs for something else--I'd actually would like to buy and restore one. But the general public probably wouldn't receive a new "Iroc Camaro" with open arms. There's already a spin on the Camaro stereotype in the media with the recent introduction of the 5th gen cars.
Camarolina 04-27-2009, 03:08 PM Allowed to pass, but unable. The cars were so equal and had small carbs and a got huge aero-push that the racing sucked. The last two years the field would end in almost the same position they started in.
SSCamaro99_3 04-27-2009, 03:11 PM The IROC series is closed at this point.
jg95z28 04-27-2009, 03:43 PM The IROC series is closed at this point.
Correct. The IROC series is dead and all its assets were auctioned off over a year ago.
Harleyinnc 04-27-2009, 07:25 PM The IROC series is closed at this point.
In 2007, IROC could not find a sponsor and postponed the first two races at Daytona and Texas. IROC went on hiatus for 2007 hoping to return with sponsor in 2008. In March 2008, IROC auctioned off its tools, equipment, cars, and memorabilia, and went out of business
99SilverSS 04-27-2009, 08:49 PM IROC was a good idea but not set up the way it should have. It was NASCAR style cars and on their tracks.
I think a better idea is to use production based cars and have road courses and super speedways. The SEMA Camaro GS would be a great choice to use if IROC is ever to come back.
TOO Z MAXX 04-28-2009, 01:33 PM The IROC name needs to die with the series.
2010_5thgen 04-28-2009, 02:53 PM yeah i dont think i would bring the IROC name into this 5th gen. just doesnt fit the car.
speeding2fast2c 04-28-2009, 03:59 PM yeah, I guess hearing all of these posts, they all bring up very good points! Still want to get my hands on a nice third gen IROC some day, as well as the new Camaro!!! New Camaro as of right now will probably come first though!
2010SSVERT 04-29-2009, 01:31 AM The only way for an IROC Camaro to come about should be if someone revives the series and uses camaros in it.

Well yeah that is kind of what i was getting at. I think that IROC (i guees now if they still existed) should use the new Camaro in their series.

i love those iroc 3rd gens. that is one car i plan on putting in my collection one day. i just have to find one in decent shape for a good price. do a little restoration to it. beautiful!
Big Als Z 04-29-2009, 11:44 AM What stereotype are you guys refering too?
The one that had made the Camaro the best handling sports car not only in its class, but matching or beating the C4?
The stereotype where the first time since 1970 Z28 where Camaro had any linage to a racing series?
Or is the the stereotype that made Camaro from a 2 ton leaf spring tank into a world class performance car?
Which one were you guys talking about?
As for Camaro in racing, GM showed a Camaro GS at SEMA, displaying what the Camaro would look like for the Koni Racing Grand Sport series in which they will be going fender to fender with the Mustang GT race cars.
2010_5thgen 04-29-2009, 01:19 PM most of the every day average car buyer , do not see the stereotype for the IROC that most fanatics would see it for. most people see the Iroc and 3rd gen camaro as a white trash mullet mobile. i dont agree with it. i like the car. but thats the way the public out side the camaro community view the car as.

Yup, that is what alot of people refer to those cars as. One Explain would be Joe Dirt. I hate that sterotype so much. I really think that the third gen Camaros have a timeless look to them. If there weren't so many of them out there that are basically trash because they are not taken care, the sterotype might not come to be as harsh.
I have seen some really clean third gens and those cars are amzing.

While Ive never saw the whole movie, I sure as hell dont remember a third gen in the movie.
I know he had a hemi powerd car, and then Kid Rock had a Bandit car.
Any car can be a "redneck car". I know my father wasnt a trailer trash red neck when he picked his brand new Z28 in 87. And I know my grandfather wasnt a red neck when he picked up his 72 Camaro in Antwerp.
And Im sure as hell not a red neck after I drop 35k for a brand new 5th gen Camaro.
Ive seen rusted versions of every car. Stop perpetuating the myth, and it will go away.
2010_5thgen 05-01-2009, 08:31 AM my grandpa had a 74 trans am and he wasnt red neck. but the stereotype wasnt made until after they were out. they get this stereotype because they are very cheap used and alot of the cheap ones get bought by white trash rednecks and the cars look liek crap. not knocking any red necks. but they buy the cars because their cheap, and an american classic and people see that alot of these type pf people have them and it gives the car a bad name. there are alot of guys out there who arent this stereotype that have these generations of cars. but the public eye sees these trashy people driving these very cheap cars in very horrible condition and they are very quick to mock and make fun of every generation of the car and its drivers.
