I think you'd have a hard time finding 638 warrantied, delivered-to-you-in-a-crate, small-block horsepower at any price, from anyone other than GM.

You could certainly build a 638hp supercharged 6.2L small block for less than that, but there would be no warranty, and for most people, there would be no professional engineering behind the component choices and other design decisions. As with any GM crate motor, it's the engineering and the warranty that makes it special. :)

+1 That is what makes it so awesome. A bulletproof, 638hp designed, built and backed by GM. Totally ready to go, no worries about meeting emissions. I think its pretty awesome.

Which has really confused me. Why does the ZR1 weigh 144 lbs more than a Z06. Yes, 72 comes from the LS9, but you loose around 40 lbs by the Carbon brakes and I imagine 20 lbs from the additional carbon fiber body parts. So where is all the extra weight coming from?

An additional 72 lbs of weight on the nose of a Camaro would definitely change the handling feel, but then you could start replacing carbon fiber body parts to drop the weight to minimize the weight gain. And 72 lbs is no where as drastic as adding 200lbs.

Wider wheels (and corresponding wider fenders and quarter panels), stronger drivetrain components, twin-disk clutch, MR shocks, blah blah blah. :)

Inter-cooler parts? I admit I am not that familiar with the LS-9.

This has been much discussed over at the corvette forum. The additional weight comes from the suspension upgrades, some beefing up of power train and magnetic ride suspension. The carbon fiber does not save a lot of weight and carbon brakes are a wash with Z06 brakes because of the size of the calipers.

I think that the only thing they have in common is the block. There might be a few other incidentals (lifters? valley pan?), but plan on changing just about everything.

I'm not aware of anyone that sells a conversion kit.

$19,995 for the lingenfelter equivalent. 650/600 plus 3/36k warranty.

Heres my question when you buy one of these engines for the $24k and then you buy the new camaro let say an ss for $40k does the price change when you tell them you want the ls9 in it instead and if so when it changes do you still get the engine ls3/ls99 you paid for when you bought the car or is the price of the engine subtracted from the total cost before they add the new price of the ls9? Wouldnt mind having two hot ass engines one thats ridiculous (ls9) warrantied already installed in the car and the other on a stand readily awaiting upgrades as my pockets inflate back!! Lol!! Id beef up the ls99 with all the available upgrades and have it ready to drop in a classic like a 69 camaro ss!! A man can dream cant he!! Lol!!

I was going to ask what the advantage would be to this engine rather than slapping the super charger on the SS LS3. Are there other differences as well?

I think the internals on the LS9 are higher quality parts. With a set of long tube headers and a couple of simple mods, I bet it would be easy to get it to 700 hp.
