The V6 Chevrolet Camaro. This is supposed to be a joke, right? The bent-six Camaro was Detroit's version of the triple-white Volkswagen Rabbit Cabriolet - only girly-girls needed apply. In the case of the Camaro, said chicks generally had big hair, cranked Slaughter on the ACDelco cassette player and actually used the ashtrays in the manner for which they were designed. If you were a guy driving a V6 (or, God forbid, an Iron Duke four) Chevy Camaro during the time Def Leppard boasted its original lineup, well, that was terribly unfortunate. The dudes with Z28s and IROCs doubtless s******ed as you rolled by with that exquisite rental-car exhaust note. This "Six Stigma" applied right through to the F-Body's demise in 2002. So let's be honest with one another: the six-cylinder car was for hairdressers. Which brings us to today, and the arrival of the new, 2010 Chevrolet Camaro V6. After driving the SS (http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/09/one-night-stand-taking-home-the-2010-chevy-camaro-ss/) during the week of the New York Auto Show (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/NewYorkAutoShow/), we were prepared to be bitterly disappointed with the pre-production six-cylinder Camaro RS that The General sent us a few days later. So much for that. Preconceptions? Obliterated.

If a V6 camaro is needed to keep the camaro name going, I'm down with it.

Good write up. It's interesting that the SS gets slightly nitpicked for visibility and interior materials but the V6 gets a pass. Who says expectations don't have a bearing on peoples perceptions.

I've been saying it for a long time, and I don't mind to keep saying it... The V6 Camaro IS in many ways the BEST Camaro!!

For less than 25 grand, you get a RWD car with a modern & sophisticated IRS, fantastic weight distribution and balence, a V6 engine that both gets 29 mpg in todays very conservative EPA rating (which throws it up to something like 32 mpg by the old standard) while pumping out 304 horsepower. The car looks like it could literally eat another car, it has a 6 speed manual transmission, it has a 19 gallon fuel tank capable of giving this new Camaro over a 500 mile range on a tank of gas.

That 155 mph governed speed is nothing to sneeze at either.... all this is about a car that falls about 1/6 below the price of the average new car today!

It takes no talent to put as much horsepower as one can get away with a particular car. Also, a car with buku-horsepower is expected to scoot around quicker. But when you have a car that makes a compelling slam dunk case for itself without relying on attention grabbing horsepower numbers, that is far and away a much bigger achievement than 426 horsepower can ever do.

Yes, the Camaro SS is impressive. But the V6 Camaro is even moreso.

GM had a Camaro this color at the Rochester Auto Show back in February. I left work early to beat the crowd and see the car. This is not a color I would normally be interested in but the color looked GORGEOUS.
