2.8 headgasket

SO I think my 2.8 needs a new headgasket.

I wish I could do an LS1 swap, but I cant right now.

If I have to remove the heads, I figured I could install a bigger cam to make it alittle bit more peppy(yeah I know it will still be slow).

I understand that at .450 lift, the retainers hit the valve stem seals on the iron v6 heads. Is there a way to squeeze alittle more out of that? Is it possibly the get shorter valve stem seals? Or would I need to get some taller valves? I dont think buying valves is worth it, but I already have to get stem seals anyways.

The main reason I ask is, the iron heads dont have that bad of flow at .500.......its just underneath that where they suck. I know the 3400/3500 heads/intake is where its at, and I would like to swap a hybrid 3.4/3500 in at some point in the future, but its not feasible now.

Any thoughts are appreciated

just get it running and drive it, don't waste anymoney trying to make it faster b/c it will never be. save the money up for something in the future

Yeah, I do have my z28 for when I want fast.

I just want this car to be alittle less ball-less.

I can get a cam and lifters from deltacams for $100, and I figure if I only get 10Hp, thats $10 per hp, way better than with my Z28. If the heads are off its a simple swap.
