RowdySS 01-11-2003, 06:17 PM Sup everyone!!
I go a 00' SS automatic and was wondering if anyone can give some input on what mods give the best results as far as.....
Air Filter Kit?
Headers? (Shorty or Long tubes?)
Y-Pipie?
Exhaust System? (2.5' or 3')
Springs? (What kind of drops are available)
Also anyone know what a stock automatic SS runs in the 1/4?
And can anyone post pix of their SS's dropped or shots of exhaust system's!
Thanx
bbentley40 01-11-2003, 07:19 PM Welcome to the board and congrats on your new car! First thing people are going to ask is how much you have or want to spend? Modding is an addiction, if you have 100 bucks we can tell you how to spend it.. if you have 5000 bucks.. we can tell you how to spend it.. lol. Thing most people go for first is a lid, and you can check www.installuniversity.com for the free mods. Let us know how much you got to spend and we will be glad to lend out advice. :)
Eric @ DMS 01-11-2003, 08:29 PM Welcome aboard and congrats on your new car :) Typically most people do the air lid as one of their first performance mods. For the money they're very worth it. Your stock box is too restricting. Drop me a line if you have any other questions. I'll be happy to help. :)
hotrodgirl 01-11-2003, 08:56 PM Congratulations! An air lid is probably one of the first mods you should do. K&N and Holley filters are the most poplular filters to use. As far as headers and exhaust, it just depends on how much you want to spend. Shorty headers aren't worth the money any you won't see a difference in performance. Like bentley said, modding will quickly turn into an addiction! :D
psychocabbage 01-11-2003, 10:18 PM Check out my review for the info on what a Lid and Filter did for me..
You will be surprised.. well maybe.. hehe
I suggest.. TIRE TIRE TIRE!
You have more power than needed right? haha Of course not! but you cant even get the power you have to the ground yet.. so why add more? get traction! with traction you can use the power you have and be better off! I have 2 sets of Drag radials.. I will be doing a shoot out at the track here soon.. My girl and myself will be driving them to see which one we like..
Look for that in about 2 weeks..
after you get traction, then add power.. Lid is decent, skip the MAF, maybe go for exhaust if thats your thing.. good luck! research and question everything! :P
Ohh, and your car will run a 13ish 1/4 mile.. the same as a Z28.. no real difference in times.. or HP really.. Get it to a dyno now before mods so you know if you are going in the right direction when you do a mod!!
95TealLT1 01-12-2003, 09:21 AM The Mods order I would choose with the A4 are:
1) Lid, K & N Filter and Catback. (15 to 20 HP)
2) Torque Converter 3000 Stall or above (Puts motor into power band quicker) Worth up to 0.5 sec inprovement in 1/4 with sticky tires.
3) Long Tube Headers (20 HP)
4) A4 cars come with either 3.23 or 2.73 gears. If you have 2.73 you need taller gears. I went with "3.73". If you have 3.23 gears could wait.
This should put you in the mid to high twelves in the 1/4. Mine went 13.26 at 104.5 mph with just the catback, lid and K & N Filter. I never ran it at the track completely stock. However, I saw a frend with a 99 trans-am (with only 600 miles on it) run 13.6 in the 1/4 mile.
transam8 01-12-2003, 10:40 AM Congrats on the new ride! As far as first mods, I would go with sub-frame connectors (to keep everything tight) and an air lid. Good luck!

My84Z 01-12-2003, 11:00 AM well this depends are you a first time rwd driver? if so just learn the car before you hurt yourself or others. if you have owned rwd cars and are responsible do intake exhaust and a stall first.
Don't over look a Hypertech Power Programmer! Cost around $350. It allows you to change your shift firmness, shift points (mph) and install a 160 degree stat.

Congrats on the car man, you're gonna love it.
FYI though, the stock system is 2.75", so I wouldn't put a 2.5" system on it ;)
pvhideout 01-12-2003, 01:01 PM The first on your list should be:
Lid
Cat-back
SFC
That's a good start.
stik6shift98 01-12-2003, 05:08 PM when u do headers do flp....
1. lid and filter
2. cutout
3.headers
4. nitrous express
SS1LE02 01-14-2003, 12:56 AM Supersucker ram air kit, air lid, and long tube headers.;)
RowdySS 01-15-2003, 02:12 PM I would like to say thank you to everyone who replied! Everyone provided some real good information wich helped out alot!
i was browsing around for some parts and i was going to see what you guys think of these parts,,
SLP "FLOWPAC" Lid & Cold air induction kit
SLP long tube headers with 3' y-pipe
SLP Hi-flow cats
SLP "LOUD MOUTH" 3' resinator cat-back exhaust system
Let me know what you guys think?
Also one more thing.......What shocks/springs are you guys using to get a nice drop?
dist0rtion_69 01-15-2003, 02:55 PM Eric @ DMS sells good lowering springs for a good price. One thing that you will want to keep in mind if you go with longtube headers is not to drop very much. If you go to an inch and a half drop, you will likely bang and scrape your headers/ypipe on everything. Personally, I had to use 1 inch on my moms t/a, and it still has problems over speed bumps. However, it is not so bad that you won't be able to get used to it and try to avoid it. There are really a whole lot of lowering springs around, including the big names like Eibach, Hotchkis, and BMR.
http://www.dynamicmotorsports.com/DMS%20Springs.htm
These offer a 1.3 inch drop, not sure how bad clearance would be, but several people have pulled it off.
http://www.bmrfabrication.com/F-bodySuspension.htm
These offer a 1 inch drop.
Hope I could help, tons of other places make lowering springs.
It would probably be a good idea in the future to get a stiffer shock with lowering springs as well.
Z28LS1Pewter 01-23-2003, 04:17 PM I would have to say Exhaust and a lid, because I am in the same ball park as you but I have a 99 Z28 with 20,000 miles on it and I just got a Lid and Loud Mouth exhaust
2002 NBM Bird 01-23-2003, 05:01 PM As for what to get. Simple boltons would include Lid, catback, Fast Toys Ram Air, Free ram air, long tube headers.
A few recommendations from me would be. Any brand lid with a filter (holley, amsoil, K&N, etc), you can find these at any of our sponsors
catback, depends on if you care about looks and what sound you want, loud sound try the loudmouth, great looks with a more exotic sound, try the corsa system. An F-body favorite is the Borla system, you can find these system at any of our sponsors
As for Long Tube headers, my recommendation would be the QTP headers from www.quicktimeperformance.com these headers are the best in my opinion and in tons of other people's opinion, do a search on these (also used to be called Grotts, but under new management now) You won't read about 1 person complaining, every other header out there someone has a complaint about it. These are what I will be going with.
as for springs, I would say give DMS a shot, they seem to have a good product, or you could try the eibach springs, but some people complain about those sagging, when you put lowering springs on, its not a bad idea to get some shocks. Good shocks are Bilsteins, Koni, Hal, etc. Also if you plan on lowering you going to need LCA relocation brackets, and an adjustable panhard rod, while your in that area, its not a bad idea to change the LCAs too, that'll get rid of your wheel hop. Also if you plan on headers with lowering, the QTPs make your choice even easier, a lot of LT headers cause problems with lowering, not these headers, they are amongst the best in fitment.
2002 NBM Bird 01-23-2003, 05:10 PM Just noticed you had an A4 too, you should look into a yank or vig torqu convertor. This mod will make the biggest differance in the way your auto performs. This mod alone can put you into the 12's with the proper tires
As for a stock SS, you should see anywhere in the 13's, could be low could be high, depends on the car, track prep, weather, etc etc etc.
And congrats on the new car, I love those SS camaros.
My plans are as followed, feel free to copy me. Some of these mods are already done.
Free mods, Lid (MTI clear), catback (corsa), FTRA (fast toys ram air), QTP LT headers with dual cutout Y pipe and cats, GW SFCs, LCAs, APHR, lowering, Chrome TT2 rims, drag radials, Yank TQ.
This should easily put me in the low to mid 12s
EAZE E 96Z 01-23-2003, 10:53 PM exhaust: loudmouth

160 degree stat!
eric:)
