Hey guys I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or input on the Delteq ignition system. I like the idea of using coil packs and bypassing the high voltage out of the opti-crap. I read somewhere u cant use the MSD 6-AL though and could only use the MSD DIS-4??? Am I right, or someone correct me on this. If not delteq, whats the best thing if I want to upgrade my ignition? Im putting a 383 in soon, and plan on bringing my car to around 6500 or so.

Delteq appears to be out of business, due to the illness of the owner. There has been no communication from him for at least a year. People with tech problems or needing replacement parts are totally out of luck. Do a "search".... this has been reported/discussed many times on the LT1 Based Engine Tech forum.

The Delteq was a "waste spark" system - 4 coils, each firing two cylinders at once, one cylinder on the compression stroke and the other on the exhaust stroke. That approach is used in engines where no cam position signal is available. But the Opti provides an excellent cam position signal.... the Delteq system required it, but didn't take full advantage of it.

The hot setup in my opinion is Bob Bailey's LTCC setup. Uses the cam position signal from the Opti to fire 8 LSx-style coils in direct fire. Bob has been around for years, having developed several very useful LT1 products like the ScanMaster LT1 and the MAF translator. Check his system out:

I use a similar approach, using the Opti optical sensor to feed a MoTeC ECU, with an 8-channel ignition driver, using the 8 LSx-style coils. Its a very reliable system. But the LTCC does the same thing far a ton less $$$$. Once you get the high voltage function out of the Opti, and use only the optical sensor, all the problems disappear.

So does the LTCC use 8 coils then? How much did your system run you?

Also, is the LTCC compatible with the MSD 6-AL?

My setup uses a MoTeC M48Pro system, which runs the entire engine and is capable of dual programming for a 300HP dry nitrous system. I got the ECU used for $1,500 plus another $500 for the cable, open programming and extended data logging. Bought the IEX 8-channel ignition driver for about $400. Throw another $500 on top of that for the harness modifications, initial programming and coils. If you bought the ECU new today it would be a later model and would run about $3,500.

With an 8-coil, direct fire system, you do not need the MSD. The LTCC has some capabilities with regard to timing, two-step, etc., I believe. Check the website and contact Bob with any questions.
